I stepped through the door to the sour smell of alcohol.
"Hey mum" I muttered under my breath, rolling my eyes.
She raised her bottle and slurred. "Ah there she is, the disappointment I call my daughter"
I ran up the stairs before she could get to me and locked my door.
Walking into my bathroom I heard banging.
"Open this door now anaise" she gurgled with her mouth full of liquid.
"Uh, just a sec mum, I'm getting changed" I smoothly lied.
"FINE, YET AGAIN, JUST IGNORE ME, I WISH YOUR FATHER BEAT MY STOMACH MORE WHEN I WAS PREGNANT" I heard her screaming, walking down the stairs.
Sighing, I washed my face and climbed on my bed.
I picked my phone up and messaged my friend, Rover.
A: Hey, can you pick me up? Like my bedroom window again?
R: Sure I can, your mum at it again?
A: Yeah😔 she wished my dad would've punched her stomach more when she was pregnant with me lmao.
R: No, I'm sure that's not true. It's the drink talking.
A: The drink is always talking😕
I was laid upside down on my bed, waiting for a reply, when I heard a pebble hit against my window.
Smiling, I shot up and double checked my door was locked, before opening my bedroom window and climbing down the side roof.
I walked towards the black car to see a slrry Rover looking at me, sympathetically.
"Less of the sympathy Rover, I'm used to it"
He got out of the car and hugged me, squeezing me hard and smelling my hair.
"You always do that" I giggled, rolling my eyes and ruffling his hair.
"Yeah I know. You're like my little sister, I need to be there for you, I can tell when you need a good hug"
It's true. Rover is like my big brother, he's 20 and im 18. It sounds kinda bad but it's not. We met online, and it's a friendly thing. We've known each other since he was 17 and I was 15.
Two years later and he still picks me up and takes me to my favourite place, he let's me sleep over sometimes too, but that means I have to wake up early and creep back in so I can shout back at my drunk mother.
"Earth to Anaise, are you in there?" He was chuckling, opening my side of the car door for me.
"Yeah, I'm just sad" I sighed, hopping into the leather seats and letting out a breath I didn't even know I was holding.
He closed the door behind me before climbing into his side.
"I know you are, you have every right to be. But it'll get better"
"Do you promise?" I fidgeted in the chair as he started the engine.
"Of course I promise" He lifted his pinky, linking it with mine before starting to drive, humming to himself, "pinky promise".
----
We arrived at his house around 20 minutes later, after small conversations, mainly by him.
Slipping out of the car, he walked around to my side and opened my door, pulling me out.
"I just want to sleep" I groaned at him.
My eyes started to fill with tears and I could tell he could also tell, because he was looking at me with the slightest frown and a down turned mouth.

LosoweDo you know what it's like to not be noticed? To not blend in, but not stand out either, it's like being pushed into a wall. For anaise (ann-eye-eese) this was the same boring routine of school, coming home to her drunk mother and locking herself i...
