Chapter One: Abandoned
_______________________________
Footsteps and panting could be heard clearly deep in the night. Big, fat and heavy raindrops fell from the low and dark night sky. I was standing on the path in the middle of the park. The shadow of him faded as he took every step forward...
"Mum! Rody spilled milk again!"
"Dad! Rody did not finish his food again!''
"Samuel! Get this dog out now!"
"Samuel! You better get this dog out, away from home! As far as possible! Make sure that that jinx doesn't come back!"
I was a pathetic black corgi who lives in a pathetic house full of pathetic people. They were no better than me except the fact that they had a better life than me. My life was controlled by them. If I had not listened to them, I would have been long dead. I could not make my own life decisions and was never at peace except when I am with Samuel alone without any disturbance. Samuel had dotted on me the most. Tears were streaming down his cheeks when he let me go at the park. Sobbing uncontrollably, I watched him as his shadow grew fainter and fainter. How I wish I could run after Samuel and not get abandoned again. My past memories were flooding into my mind kike a tsunami crashing onto mainland. Samuel's face, Samuel's last words... I wonder if I will ever find anyone like him again...
I really hope that I could go home and find Samuel, but part of me does not want to ~ because my fear of meeting the rest of the Chan Family. Going back will not change my fate to make it any better, it would just make things turn out worse, but whatever that is done is done. Nothing can be changed.
Why must I be in such an inauspicious colour? Why must it be me? Thoughts and thoughts raced through my mind. Mr Chan had called me a jinx a hundred of times just because I was inauspicious in color. All the bad memories flooded into my mind, none with a happy ending. I wished I could be with Samuel once more...
Beeeeep!! The loud beeping of incoming car snapped me back into reverie. I grunt at the driver before running off. I slowed down my pace, thinking that I was safe. Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind me. What or who was chasing after me? I increased my pace, faster and faster...
