I pulled my head out of the ice cold water in the rusty old bathtub, gasping for air. I sat up, pulling my knees up to chest. The cold air from the broken window hit my red flushed face, making it sting. I winced and hugged my knees closer to shield my body from the cold. My eyes quickly scanned the room, the mint green walls smothered with graffiti, the dirty bloodstained sink that had fallen apart leaving big chunks of ceramic in mountains of white dust on the floor. I quickly climbed out, careful not to step on any glass. What was left of a mirror showed my scared looking reflection. My blue eyes seared into my soul. I blinked and quickly looked away. A dirty old towel lay in a crumpled heap on the floor which I swiftly hung over my shoulders. My blonde hair was spiked up messily and it almost touched the top of the doorframe as I left the bathroom. I'm not tall though, the door frames were very low, as though I was living in a house for a hobbit.

The hallway I walked down was the same minty green as the bathroom, the only difference was the red splatters around where it met the floor. I didn't exactly recall where these came from. My feet almost got cut by a piece of plaster that was littered on the floor so I began to be very cautious about where I was stepping.

Past all the rooms and the door I never opened awaited the beautiful lounge room. I'd always been very proud of my lounge room. There was a long black leather couch facing a flat screen TV. Three walls were painted white, apart from the long one you see when you enter from the hallway. In fact, that wall had been completely knocked out giving a great view of the forest which was a vivid green from the rain from that morning.

My small kitchen in the corner was still blackened from the fire that had happened however long ago. The only thing that had survived was my fridge which I opened to find unfortunately empty. A wave of annoyance crossed my blemish-free face before I decided I might as well go out.

The hallway seemed to watch me as I creeped back down it to my room. My heart suddenly stopped when a door creaked in front of me. The door which I never opened was open the slightest bit, just enough for me to be able to see inside. My stomach turned and I slammed the door shut, sending plaster dust flying. Face hardening into an expression impossible to read, I opened the next door into another mint green room. My bedroom. As I was pulling my clothes on from off of a very rusty and creaky double bed I felt a whisper from the back of my mind, sending those familiar cold chills through my body. From the darkest depths of the soul it came, begging, demanding to be acknowledged. I struggled but managed to push it back down to the black hole where it belonged. While doing so I had bitten my tongue so hard it had started to bleed. I winced and pulled on my hoodie before running to the lounge room. I had to get out of the house. I jumped out of the place where the wall had been knocked out and landed in the soft grass of the forest before I jogged down the path towards town.
