There was once a young girl who had no name, she was just called girl. She lived in an old hut with her mother, in the middle of nowhere. The girl was about 8 years old, and was not treated like any other girl, she was placed in a single room, with nothing but a window to look out of. She often cried herself to sleep wishing she could go out to the green hills, that she has seen so often out her window. The girl was lonely and sad, her look consisted of a simple flower dress given to her by her best friend many years ago, hair as white as ice,and brown sorrowful eyes. The girl's mom was cruel, and often hit her, she never dressed properly, and always had draggled hair. It never used to be like this, only until her father died, and that was 4 years ago.

One day, the girls mom was yelling at her so loud, it could be heard from miles away. Her daughter had broken the last memory of their father, a vase as gold as the sun.

"How could you have done this!" the mother yelled. "I've given you a roof over your head ,food, and love for 8 years, and this is how you repay me?"

"It's hard enough your father died, but now you destroyed the only thing left of him!" she screamed.

Her mother was so full of hatred that she could not even hear her only daughter's plea for forgiveness.

"I'm sorry,I'm sorry!" the girl cried.

"Sorry is not enough!" her mother bellowed.

But, just before her mother could hit her, the sound of a gunshot rang outside. Just as quick as her mother looked, she was dragged out the back door by her hand. When she looked up to see who the person was, she almost screamed. For it was the old "wandering man" or at least the name she had given him. Whenever the girl looked out her window, she would see the man upon the hill. Often she would cry out for help, but a reply would never be given, and he soon became a part of the scenery. The man had a gruffy appearance, a huge beard, and reached about six feet into the air. He dragged her all the way out past the green hills, and into the woods beyond. They finally stopped at a small house in the hollow of a tree. He let go of the shaking girl, and gave her a long hard look before saying:

"What's you name girl?" he questioned sternly.

"I don't have one." she replied with tears.

"Stop that cryin girl, I don't gone drag you out here so you can cry." I've been hearing you with that lady for quite some time now,and I can't stand it no more!" he yelled. I took you out here so I can give ya a better life, nothing like what your momma done give you."

The girl looked up with helpless eyes and smiled.

"I would sure like to be free." she answered.

"That's a girl,now let's give ya a name."

"Hmm, lets see, you ain't no Mary,Margaret,or Melissa, how about Annabelle?" he questioned.

"I've always loved the sound of that name, sweet Annabelle,it's like music to my ears."

Given her new name Annabelle replied with a voice of joy:

"I think that'll do just fine."

The man bent down to her and hugged her for all it was worth. For his only son had died just a year ago, and he longed for someone to love again. He was old, and knew his time was almost up, but he was determined to share everything he had with her. He told her about the magic of the woods, and how he's wandered hills miles away from here trying to find his purpose. And almost broke down down into tears when he told Annabelle that she was his purpose.

Annabelle stayed with him till she was 18 years old. And on her 18th birthday he died. But he left behind a legacy that soon became Annabelle's. She continued to wander the hills looking for her purpose, and a chance to give someone a new beginning till the day she died.

There was a tale passed down from generation to generation, that there was these two strangers known as the "wandered people" helping lost and forgotten children that were left in the dust. Most people say it's not true, but there are some who swear that they have seen a glimpse of a young girl with an old man wandering the green hills far away.
