Night at the Bar

"Hey! Come on Rachel! Let's meet some dudes!" Felicia said, already drunk. "Hmm, pass," I said back. "What ever you *hiccup* say," She said and wondered off into the crowd. I rolled my eyes and turned to the bartender. "One shot of Vodka please," I asked. "How old are you?" He asked. "Old enough to drink," I responded. He looked at me with doubt. "Fine, I'm 22. Can I have the shot now?" I asked. It was a complete lie, I'm only 18. It's so easy to sneak into bars and clubs these days. The man sighed and poured me a shot. I took it and gulped it down. My face scrunched up from the horrible taste. "Why would you drink Vodka if you don't like it?" A girl asked. She sat down next to me and also asked for a vodka shot. "Because I can," I responded.  "If you can do it, does it mean that you should?" She asked, gulping down the shot with ease.  "What does it matter to you?" I asked. "I guess it doesn't. It's just annoying when people say the 'because I can' excuse," She told me. "You want a real answer? I honestly have nothing better to do,"  I told her. "Really? You could be with your family members and loved ones," She said. I looked down a bit and asked for another shot. "Ah, family troubles?" She asked. "I'd rather not talk about it," I said as I downed another shot. "Well you have nothing better to do right?" She asked. I glanced at her for a moment. "Not really family troubles; I have no family. My parents and I got in a car accident when I was 5, and I was in foster homes ever sense. Until I turned 18, anyway. Now I live with my delusional roommate. I have to live with her because rent is seriously low," I said. "My dad was a bastard... he hurt me and my mom. My mom couldn't leave him because she was to weak and scared. One day... he killed her. Now my dad's in jail, and I'm on my own," She said. "Hey, what's your name?" I asked. "Jess, you?" Jess asked. "Rachel," I responded. "Nice to meet you Rachel," Jess said with a smile. That night, I met my first best friend.
