I opened the window of my bedroom and let in the cool spring air. I breathed in and smelled the crisp air, the scent of water drenched basalt floating gently on the breeze. I could hear the nearby stream bubbling and churning and smiled because despite the night before, these sounds and smells brought brought in a potent calm that washed over everyone within ear shot. I looked out past the chunky terrain and admired the sunrise, an activity that had become as ritualistic as brushing my teeth. I stood by the ajar window for a moment or two longer before I heard my husband stir in the bed behind me.
"K.C.? What are you doing?" He sighed as he stretched, his entire body being pulled tight by imaginary strings before he went lax and stared at me.

Jesse's smile faltered and he sat up a bit, his golden locks falling into azure eyes. "Was it because of dinner?"

"No," I immediately lied. Jesse gave me the straightest face I've ever seen and my caramel face tinged red. "Well," I mumbled, "not mostly... it's just a bit upsetting that your father still doesn't trust me to be a faithful wife to you."

Jesse ruffled his hair. "Well, you know lawyers aren't known for their honesty." He chuckled heartily as I just stared at him, silently seething. He noticed and pulled me closer into his arms. "I'm just kidding." I half smiled against his chest. "Come on, I'll make us some breakfast." He said, swinging his feet over the side of the bed and throwing on a tank top.
