"Hahaha! That was actually funny!" I said, laughing a Quinn's joke. "Are you saying my first joke wasn't funny?" he asked with a sly grin on his face. I pretended to think about it. "Yes," I replied, returning the same grin. He looked at me with a jokingly shaming face. I pretended to look confused. He broke out in laughter. So did I. After the laughter died down, I looked up at the stars and found the Big Dipper. That constellation has always been my favorite. I looked back down to see myself in front of my house. "Okay, goodnight Quinn," I said. "Goodnight Skylar," he replied. I turned around to enter the code when Quinn said "Skylar, wait. I forgot to give you something."he started to walk up my driveway to me. I didn't see anything in his pockets. He leaned in for our first kiss. I did the same. "Okay, now bye," I said happily. "Bye," he replied. I watched him walk down the dimly lit street. I faced my door and gently entered the code. I opened the door. I saw my parents and greeted them with a quick "Hi," and nothing more. I bolted up the stairs, into my room, and shut the door. I whipped out my phone. I wasn't ready to tell my parents about the kiss, but I had to tell Laila, my best friend. For some reason, she hasn't always loved the topic of Quinn and I being boyfriend and girlfriend, but I knew she would be happy we shared our first kiss. I was so excited that when I tried to put in my passcode, I couldn't do it and I just got it wrong. I started to get frustrated until I remembered my Touch ID. I put my thumb on my home button and all my apps on my phone appeared. I searched my phone for FaceTime. I opened the app immediately and practically punched Laila's contact. My phone rang at least 5 times. I anxiously waited for my phone to read connecting. Finally, it said connecting and Laila's face appeared. "Laila! I have huge news! I haven't shared this with anyone yet. For your information, this is about Quinn." I told her. "Ugghh, Quinn." she replied, rolling her eyes. "Oookay?" I said. "Anyway," I continued, "we were walking back to my house, and he said he wanted to give me something, then he kissed me!!" "Oh." Laila responded. "Well. I thought you would be happy for me." I admitted. "No, I'm not. I've never wanted to tell you, to hurt your feelings, but I'm not happy for you." Laila yelled. I was shocked. I've always seen Laila be a bit negative with the Quinn topic, but never this angry. "Laila, why are you so angry with me?" I asked. "Quinn and I used to be a couple, until you came along in Sophomore year. He broke up with me because of you. I know because on the same day he broke up with you, I saw you guys flirting. Things were going so well for us. I still have feelings for him, even if he did dump me." I was silent on the other end of the conversation. I let my blonde hair cover my deep blue eyes so I wouldn't have to look at Laila. She broke the silence. "I'm done with your lovey-dovey relationship with him." her voice became louder again. "It's either me, or him." "I didn't know," I whispered. I don't think she heard me. She ended the call. I sat on my bed for a few moments, letting this sink in. I finally stood up and got dressed for bed, brushed my teeth, washed my face, said goodnight to my parents, and got into bed. It was 10:37 at night. I stared up at blank ceiling debating who to choose. All this stress made me tired and I fell asleep. Beep-beep-beep. I used my arm to smack things aimlessly, hoping to hit the snooze button. I had no such luck, so I was forced to lift my face out of bed and find the button. Looking at the bright numbers on my clock woke me up, and I couldn't fall back asleep. I had the same routine thought of I shouldn't have to get up this early for school, but then another thought popped up, I have to choose.
