Chapter 13 - Mixed Emotions

Phil POV.

The past years been tough, to say the least. Dan has been completing his first year in sixth form, constantly with coursework and revision whilst I am busy with family related issues and working - communication has been hard.

We still text all the time, and when we can meet up, but lately he feels so distant from me. I don't know why.

Tomorrow I leave for playlist live again, we planned like half a year ago that we will go together, meet in the airport and share a hotel room but I'm worried when I see him he won't be so happy to see me.

'Phil!' My mum, Hannah, called me.

'Yesssss!' I yelled back.

'Come down your grandpa is here!'

I walked down slowly, not wanting to go into the room with my family.

A few months after last years playlist live my Grandma past away. Since then my Grandad comes round every Wednesday evening, but he barely speaks. He sits watching the TV and occasionally cries. Obviously I love him with all my heart but seeing him like this breaks my heart and puts a downer on everyone else.

'Hey Gramps.' I smile, walking through the door and sitting beside him. My mum hands me a cup of tea and I look towards the screen showing Eastenders. I wasn't a fan but since I watch it once a week I have started getting into it a lot more. As I was getting into it my phone buzzed.

See you at Heathrow Airport tomorrow, can't wait to be reunited! - Dan

I smiled, but was still kind of hurt... I miss when he used to send love hearts and x's and drown me with compliments. That is when it felt real.

I replied - see you there x

Before muting my phone and watching the rest of Eastenders.  Once finished my mum called us for dinner and we all sat in silence round the table eating our meal.

'So are you excited for Playlist?' My mum smiled, in an attempt to make conversation.

'Yeah, I haven't interacted with fans in what feels like forever!' I chuckled. 'it'll be nice to see Dan again too.'

'Dan oh I he was such a lovely chap, he doesn't come round much anymore!' My dad jumped in.

'He is in sixth form.' I muttered.

'You should get him to spend a while up here again soon? but for like a few weeks!'

'Yeah- Maybe- I don't know. I need to go pack though. Thank you for dinner mum, nice seeing you Grandpa, see you in a few weeks.' I smiled, walking over and kissing his head before walking up the stairs.

My alarm went off, I looked at the clock 2:50AM, fuck I always set my alarm to give me no time to actually get ready. I changed into some clothes and grabbed anything that wasn't packed in my case such as phone, wallet, passport, phone charger, laptop and camera. I looked at the time again 2:58AM, if he's on time, my taxi should be here in 2 minutes.

I ran to the toilet then brought my luggage down the stairs, just in time to hear the car pull up outside. I looked towards the stairs as if to say goodbye to my family before leaving the house.
