Long long ago, in ancient times, man was devoted to the subordinates of The Holy One, The Devine Presence who created him, who created beasts, who created trees, and who created every single inch of the universe. The subordinates , or the Gods of The Holy One were given special powers and responsibilities to take care of special things. But along with powers came in limitations, but the Gods never seemed to feel dejected by this. They were full of bliss for being chosen by Him to carry out the various processes on the Earth, and tried their best to do their job well. They were always happy and devoted.

All but one.
THE GODDESS OF SADNESS- Dierdre.

Dierdre longed to be like others. She wanted to smile charmingly like the other Goddesses, to laugh her heart out on hearing a hilarious joke, to feel an emotion, besides sadness.

But that seemed quite impossible, for she was given the job to make humans sad when required, to make them feel guilty on doing something wrong, to make them remorseful on losing a beloved one.

And in order to do that, The Holy one did not give Dierdre emotions. The only emotion she had were the negative emotions.

This made Dierdre jealous. She wanted to possess what she could never have. This decreased her devotion towards her work and her loyalty towards The Holy One.

She started hating the other Gods and Goddesses, especially Beatrice- the Goddess of Happiness.

And one day, she carried out her dangerous plan for getting what she wanted.

It was the fateful night of joy and celebration. The Sun God and The Moon Goddess had given birth to a shining baby, and they were going to name her that night.

Dierdre had declined the invitation to the party by giving the excuse of being extremely tired. Beatrice, being the sweet and caring Goddess she was, went to pay Dierdre a visit at her chamber.

Dierdre was aware of this, so she chalked out a cunning plan to make everyone regret.

She stole the Dagger of Mortality, a wonderful dagger which had the power of turning any God or Goddess into a mortal by just stabbing the dagger into the heart of the God or Goddess once. The stabber would get all the powers the God or Goddess possessed.

Dierdre sat on her comfortable bed, sharpening the Dagger of Mortality with a small diamond, when she suddenly heard a knock on the door of her chamber. She hid the dagger inside the small pouch in her gown. Her eyes darkened with intense rage and pure evilness, but it was soon changed by the most normal expression the Goddess of Sadness could ever give. She opened the door and welcomed inside a smiling Beatrice, who looked beautiful and elegant in her gorgeous pink gown. Dierdre instantly started feeling jealous. She said coldly, "Hello Beatrice. You look lovely, and so does your gown." "Oh thank you! I have made it myself. It took me a month to finish it you know! How are you feeling now Dierdre?", Beatrice replied happily in her melodious voice.
