Winter's POV

Winter had watched with wide eyes as the dark black fog wrapped itself around (Name). At first he thought that it was her real power until he saw the fear in her eyes and he panicked cries for help. Somehow he had broken through the thick density as he reached for the panicked girl. When he pulled her out of the fog it instantly dissipated as a single name left her lips, Jenny. Who was Jenny? Running a hand through his hair Winter tries to think about what his next move was. (Name) was unconscious and if anyone was to see them he would be held responsible.

As if fate decided for him he heard he cell phone ring and even though it was probably a bad idea he reaches into her pocket and pulling it out see the name on the screen and clenches his jaw. This was really gonna suck. "Hello?" He reluctantly says as he waits for the other person to talk.

"Buck?" A familiar voice says and Winter's heart clenches.

"Yeah,"

"What are you doing with (Name)'s phone?"

"Steve, she needs you. I'll explain when you get here."

"Is she okay?" Steve's panicked voice calls out making Winter's brow furrow.

"She's breathing but something weird happened. I can't help her, so hurry up and get here." Winter says as he instantly hangs up sure that by now Steve had already pinpointed their location and was on his way. Winter cradles (name)'s head in his lap which was very unlike him. He usually didn't care about others, especially ones who were supposed to be heroes. Letting out a heavy sigh he looks up at the sky and the sight of the two of them flying fills his mind.

The cool breeze against his face had felt heavenly. He had genuinely enjoyed flying. Although when she had pretended to drop him it had freaked him out slightly. This girl definitely had some balls to act so normal with him; everyone else knew it was better to avoid him. Winter glanced down at the girl lying unconscious in his lap and cocked an eyebrow. Her brow was furrowed as she unconsciously clung to him. Her actions back at the intersection had made his blood boil.

Who had hurt her; and why did he care? He didn't know her, didn't know what she went through but the thought alone that someone might have put their hands on someone as fragile looking as her made him seethe with rage. He had fully intended to find out from the two men across the street what had happened, no matter what it came too. He would have resorted to torture if it had some to it. Groaning in annoyance he reaches up and scratches a hand through his hair. This, him, all of it, made absolutely no sense whatever.

The sound of a Harley approaching pulled him from his silent monologue. His head snaps up to see the familiar outline of his old friend and his body tenses. Winter gently lifts (Name) into his arms as he swiftly stands up and walks over to Steve who was now dismounting his bike and heading toward them. "Buck." Steve says as he meets him halfway.

"Here," Winter says as he reluctantly hands (Name) over to his old friend.

"So what happened?" Steve asks as he secures her in his arms. Winter sighs as he tells him everything that happened which made Steve's brow furrow. "Thanks Buck, I'll take her to SHIELD and get her checked out." Winter nods. He wants to tell Steve to stop calling him Buck but he knew deep down it was pointless. To Steve he would always be that kid from Brooklyn. No matter what he had done? Without as much as another word he takes a glance at (Name) and then disappears into the city.

Reader's POV

When I awoke I was lying in a hospital bed with my father sitting in a chair next to my bed. "Dad?" I ask confused as to how I had gotten here.
