Oh hi. You again. Whatcha doin there?
*gasps*
You should be ashamed! How do you sleep at night?
Disgusting.
Welcome to my-OW-our, story book-excuse me-novel.
(Matts PoV)
Business was slow. No one had come with jobs for four missionaries. Nathan sat and poked at some cottage cheese, (please don't ask, I don't have an answer) Braydun was destroying a punching bag, Everett was reading something very emotional from the looks of it, and I was making myself breakfast. Braydun leaned out of the training room, sweat dripping down his face, arms, and legs. A few stray drops splattered on the mats by the training room door.
"We need a new punching bag." He informed me. I swiveled my body to Everett.
"Would you mind going to grab another bag Ev? And take Braydun with you, he probably knows the best brand to buy." I turned back to my sausage and eggs, sizzling nicely in a frying pan. I heard a sigh from Everett and the loud squeak from our old reclining chair as he got up from his comfy spot.
"I suppose.." He mumbled. "Come on Braydun." I heard the jangle of keys and the short bee beep of the car unlocking as Everett pressed the button. They opened the underground garage door, and got in the car. Then, going up a steep ramp, pulled out of another door set one inch in the surface of the earths crust. Both of the doors closed.
I shoveled the sausage and eggs onto a large plate and set the plate on the bars counter top. Nathan looked up from his cottage cheese, which he had been interested in poking the entire morning.
"Welcome to the land of the living nate." I congratulated him in a mocking tone. He stood from the bar stool he was on and took a bow and a deep breath of fresh air.
"It is so good to be back general dipshit." He held in a burst of laughter.
"Oh ha ha." I laughed falsely. "Very funny." I rolled my eyes and chuckled a bit.
"Are you gonna eat all of that?" Nathan asked pointing to the large amount of sausage and eggs I had heaped onto a plate. I shook my head.
"Can I have some?" He asked, his mouth watering.
"Only if you take back that I am general dipshit." I replied.
"Fine fine. You are not general dipshit." He said defeated. I smiled, grabbing a plate for him.
"How much do you want?" I asked simply.
"Hmmm." He thought for a minute, just to piss me off.
"I think I'll have three of the sausages and four eggs." He said plainly.
"Really? That's a little much for you."
"Pshh I'm hungry it'll be fine." He said absentmindedly. All he wanted was food. So I picked out three sausages and four eggs and put them neatly onto his plate. He wolfed them down and looked at me hungrily as I started to work on my last sausage. I sighed.
"Here." I tossed him the sausage and it landed on his plate with a quiet thump. He inhaled that too. I was about to tell him about proper eating when the garage opened again. Everett slid the car perfectly into the slot and exited the car, Braydun following behind.
(Everett's PoV)
I exited the car and opened the backdoor, letting out the creature we had found pilfering the 7 11 in town. Nathan nearly fell out of his seat.
"WHAT IS THAT ITS SO COOL!" He hollered. Matt jumped on his yelling.
"No yelling in the bunker nate!" He said, very teacher-like. Nate gave him a look and stuck him the bird before turning back to the creature, who was now sniffing at everything in the living room.
"What is it Ev?" He asked.
"To hell if I know. We saw a guy at the seven eleven and he rode in the car with us. But now there's a creature."
"Shifter?" Matt questioned. I shrugged.
"Could be." I replied gloomily. I whistled at the creature and its focus snapped to me.
"Good." Matt whispered under his breath. He shifted into his other form. A large, black tiger. Then He shifted back.
"See?" He said to the creature, trying to prove that they were alike. The creature huffed and shifted with a quiet poof. He was tall. With longer chocolate brown hair. His eyes were grey like storm clouds, and his foot tapped impatiently while his fingers drummed on his crossed arms. Nate waved a small wave and produced a computer out of a satchel I hadn't noticed before. Nate. He loved to hack important companies and pirate stuff off the internet. That's why Matt recruited him. I was chosen for my superior stealth although Matt can out-sneak me any day. I'm also his best friend. The man uncrossed his arms and sighed.
"Who are you?" He asked, addressing Matt.
"I'm Matthew, leader of the Brøtherhood." He replied. A stray scientist strode up to Matt and whispered in his ear. Matt said something quietly back, and the scientist nodded, walking off quickly in the direction they had come from. The man nodded.
"Well Matt. I'm paradox. Former familiar of the witch, Iris." Paradox stood there in the garage doorway, unmoving. Unblinking. Yeesck.
"Former?" Matt questioned. Paradox nodded.
"I broke the bond." He replied.
Matt nodded. He knew how this worked. His girlfriend was a witch.
"Well you can stay here with us." Matt tried. Paradox seemed to think for a moment. Then he nodded.
"I'd like to join your team." He decided.
"What can you bring that the others have not?" Matt pried.
"I can provide extra muscle, and stealth." He said, looking at both Braydun and me in turn. Matt nodded
Thoughtfully.
"Is that all?" He pried further. Paradox shook his head.
"I have magic." He stated. He sounded wounded when he said the word magic, as if it hurt him Every time he said it. Matt nodded.
"Come with me." He said, more business-like than before. I looked around at my colleagues. We knew what was happening. He was going to be sworn into the Brøtherhood. We all smiled and escorted paradox to the aligning room.
