Seven: Isn't It Tragic?
-Isn't It Tragic?-
Sirens blare
Lights flash
A cop car
A fire-truck
And an ambulance
Race down the street
Towards the scene.
How often do we hear those
Sirens wailing out
Or see a glimpse of flashing lights through our window
And not give it a passing thought?
It seems we keep becoming
More and more
Immune
To the plight of others
Around us.
And how often do we turn on the TV
To find it at a news channel,
The anchor telling a tragic story
About a murder
Or a shooting
An accident that killed dozens
A cruel leader
Turned against his own people,
And manage to tune it all out?
We keep getting
More and more desensitized.
I can't really blame anyone-
We're just trying to protect ourselves-
It's like a survival instinct, really.
Still, though
Isn't it tragic,
When you think about it,
How easily
We are able to
Block out
Others' suffering?
