thirteen years.

"how much is this?" a kid held an old gameboy in his hand, ignoring the fact the color was faded and it only had two games.

"five bucks," rhett responded, smacking his mint bubblegum that had lost it's sweetness sometime ago.

"i only have three." the kid looked up at rhett and have him a puppy like pout. he couldn't help but give in.

"you can have it for three."

the kid did a silent victory dance and handed rhett three crumpled dollar bills before skipping down the street.

rhett sighed and stared at his old things that laid on the table. a few rock tees, some cd's, a barely worn pair of chucks that were two sizes too small, and miscellaneous items that had no place being in his possession any longer. besides, he needed some quick cash.

a girl with tan and red roller blades came quickly down the street, her braids swinging this way and that every time she moved her feet. her purple helmet seemed a little big for her head, for it would flop forward every now and then. she moved onto the sidewalk with a cherry popsicle in her hand, the juice melting and running down her arm like raindrops on a car window.

"hello," the girl approached rhett's yard, seemingly clumsy as she tried to halt herself. "what are you selling here?"

"have a look," rhett offered, gesturing his hand towards the table. the girl sucked on her popsicle as she scanned the table, her lips becoming red stained.

"interesting stuff," she nodded and smacked her lips. "these look cool." she picked up a pair of mom jeans that rhett wasn't sure of where they came from.

"how much?" she asked, her skates making a clopping sound as she neared rhett.

"seven bucks," he answered.

"ah, seven." the girl threw her half gone popsicle into the street, it fell into pieces, small bits of red spraying the cement. she reached into her pocket and pulled out a folded ten dollar bill and handed it to him. "keep the change. besides, it's hard to find a decent pair of these around. i can make some really suave shorts with these."

rhett couldn't help but laugh a bit. this girl was so interesting. she seemed to be carefree, at least from what he observed.

"oh yeah, i'm nadia," she held out hair hand to him. he took notice of the bright pink bandaid on her pinky finger. "i'm ev- rhett," he corrected himself.

"fancy doing business with you, rhett. i'll see you around," she gave a red mouthed grin before taking off down the side walk, holding the pair of pants in the air like a trophy. rhett's grandmother could be heard from peeking out the window. "strange, strange child."
