RE:born Chapter 1
You often hear teenagers and even kids say "I wish I wasn't born in this generation", but what if a wish like that could actually come true?
I find it ironic that such a thoughtless statement could actually amount to my life, and reincarnation.
I am the living answer to that wish, but it doesn't excite me. Although I always found it cool that I could basically time travel, it wasn't by your common "time machine" travel. Every time I died, I would be reincarnated in any random era, century, or decade.
I figured this fact out after about 3 deaths, or what I like to call, 3 "rebirths". I was able to experience different lives as the right hand of his royal majesty, a housewife in the 80's, and even an intergalactic war general. I was always born the same gender, a girl, so being able to experience other genders was out of the question.
After those 3 lives, I've got it. Or so I thought, but this time around, it seems I was born into a different universe entirely. Every time I was reincarnated, I was born into a new family, some of them being the best ones I've ever had, and some being one of the most traumatic experiences in my entire lifetime. It seemed when I was born in this life, I had no parents; I was sent to an orphanage.
This wasn't your usual orphanage though; it was only composed of me and two other children, plus the adults who were looking after us.
It seems that in this universe, abandoning your child is something that isn't done often, and is frowned upon. It also seemed to be the only orphanage in the universe surprisingly, and me and the other two people were the only orphans in the world.
I had heard rumors from the adults that us orphans were abandoned by our parents because we had special powers, but that story seemed too far fetched and strange for me to believe, so I quickly dismissed that the rumor could not be true in my head as soon as I heard it.
Even though a small part of me secretly believed that the other orphans knew something about this rumor, something about me said not to talk about it to them until one day, when I was brave enough to finally ask.
It was your normal rainy day here on planet Luxor, the center of the universe. There seemed to be chances of a storm, so the adults all forced us inside, not allowing us to go outside until the signs of the storm were gone.
I was in the living room with the other orphans and we were playing a few board games. We were now currently playing Uno, which I was surprised to see here in this universe. It was a game I liked to play with my children back in the 80's when I was a housewife. It seemed that this universe had many board games I used to play as a kid and with my kids, and even some ones that were apparently made soon after my death.
I was now currently dominating the other two in Uno, having won all of the games we played and leaving them in the dust. They were both on six cards while I was at two, feeling confident in my next win. It was time for Reed, one of the other and only male orphan's turn, and he laid down a blue 6, seeming to be indifferent about his cards. Cadenza was up next, and she played a green 6, a color I didn't have.
I was a bit shocked at her reckless strategy, since she was usually very reserved while playing this game, but it didn't matter, since I had a trick up my sleeve. I smirked as I called Uno and laid down a wild draw four card, changing the color to yellow.
Reed quietly screamed in anger, as he didn't want to get the adults who were supervising us mad. He glared at me as he picked up four cards from the drawing pile. It was now Cadenza's turn to play, and it seemed that it was all over for them.
"I can't believe you, Harmony. Why do you always have to be so intense when we're playing this game?" Cadenza asked, considering her options of cards to play. Harmony was the name I decided to choose for myself this time around, since I liked music so much. It also seemed that the other orphans had names that were also musical terms, which was a coincidence. I had asked them both about it many times, but they never gave me a clear answer.
