34 minutes.
that's how long it took me to wait in this line. i don't know why they won't open the other registers. i mean, there's about half the population of china in this damn store.
i hate valentine's day. all i wanted was to buy chocolate because my cramps were killing me. honestly, God? what did i do to deserve this?
"excuse me, if you would like to move to the next register, that would be great," someone says. i let out a sigh of both annoyance and relief.
the worker at the cash register starts scanning my chocolate bar. i steal a glance at him. dark hair, green eyes, plus a dimple on his right cheek. his shirt looks a little tight on him though.
"hello, how are you today?" he asks.
"terrible. i want to kill someone," i answer before realising what i'm saying. "oh wait, no, sorry. i mean, i'm fine, thanks. how are you?"
he laughs before answering, "i've been better. cheer up, it's valentine's day."
"right," i look over to his name tag. "nathaniel. and what are you doing working on a fine valentine's arvo?" i ask, even though he's finished scanning my chocolate. the queue has built up as well.
"saving up, babe. what about you?" i was about to answer, but he continued. "someone's a lucky guy. that's some expensive chocolate."
i resist the urge to laugh. me? having a guy? if only he knew. i answer him, anyway.
"don't call me babe. and i don't think that's any of your business, actually. have a great day, nathaniel."
"i will. call me nate."
"call you? why would i call you? i don't even have your number? and you probably have a girlfriend?" i ask, confused.
"i'm single, babe." he winks.
i look down at my chocolate. sure enough, on top of it, lies a piece of paper with digits written across it.
