They all told me I should have searched for a place to hide; under the covers, in my closet, under the bed, but I wasn't afraid of it. Kids cried and I smiled as I watched the bolts of light strike the sky, like Zeus was trying to show us all who was still in charge of the things that make up the atmosphere above us.

So he threw his bolts and lit up parts of the sky.

That's the best part. In the dark, when lighting strikes, only parts of the sky light up at a time, sometimes two or three at a time but mostly one. And with that little difference between the light we get in the morning and the light we get from him, we can see everything in depth and we cherish it, and we feel the need to see it again.

So when there's a thunderstorm, I don't sing the nursery rhyme we were taught when we were younger to make the rain go away. I plead for the thunder to stay a little longer before it has to leave again and come back another day.

There was another thing about the lights. They were beautiful. No one likes to look directly at them from the fear of seeing a fate of being struck but if they were to look at it, they would realize the lightning was like fireworks, except it isn't as colorful. But being colorless doesn't have to be a bad thing when it comes to the sky. The sky is a canvas that is painted by different shades of white and it can still be interesting, terrifying, or entertaining to watch. If people are so used to watching T-V screens with different areas of color splattered over it or read a book just of tan and black, then why not give the sky a chance?

The sound, the great rumble of thunder. The thunder is the show for the blind and a treat for the ones who can see farther than the lights. The thunder is the source of when a storm is here because some people don't notice their surroundings well enough to know that there's a storm ahead or already here. If you're like me, you'd need to be in the dark, in a quiet place to know there's a storm. The thunder really helps remind me of the show I didn't want to miss.

So maybe some people don't want to be faced with the truth about lightning. That it's a phenomenon of lights that are seen through almost unearthly ways of nature. Just like some people don't believe in Global Warming, which they should since the planet is getting hotter and the weather is messed up for each season, some people don't believe thunderstorms with a chance of lightning is real or amazing to watch. In my opinion, the reason for why people don't believe is fear.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" (John F. Kennedy).

And if fear is the only thing we have to fear, then we can never really get rid of fear. So thunderstorms just might always be scary for many people around. It saddens me to know that some people won't be able to experience the joy I feel when I watch nature's light show. Instead they'll do what they were taught to do ever since they were younger. Sing their nursery rhymes and fear storms.
