~Chapter One~

I was awaken by a distant crash. My eyes snapped open, as I quickly sat up in bed, my blue eyes slowly adjusting to the darkness that engulfed my room. I rubbed my eyes and slowly swung my legs over the edge of my comfy bed.

What time is it anyway? I glanced at my digital clock which showed the numbers 11:59 pm in glowing red. Hmm, almost midnight.
As I sat there I realized that it was raining outdoors. At first it was a soft drizzle but it soon turned into hammering drops that beated the earth with vengeance.

The sudden change in atmosphere sent shivers throughout my body. I slowly got up and fumbled around my bedside table to switch on my lamp. The room was suddenly filled with a dull orange glow, enough to see myself around the room.

Thank goodness I didn't throw it away, even though its so childish. I slipped on my fluffy bedroom slippers that was placed nearly by my bedside. I approached my window and watched as the rain continued to pour heavily.

The sky held black pregnant clouds that hung ominously. The trees in our backyard swayed violently, stripping the leaves off its branches. As I gazed out into the darkness I was shortly reminded that the window was open when the cold air gushed in. I shut it up quickly.

Wait a sec, didn't I close this window before I went to sleep? The question repeated in my head as I tried to think back to a couple hours ago. After a while of senseless thinking, I decided to shrug it off as a misunderstanding.

I was about to head back to bed when I remembered what woke me up in the first place. I decided to check it out before heading back to bed. As soon as I walked outside my door and into the hallway, I froze. The hallway was pitch black. I couldn't even see my hands!

I'm not really scared of the dark but I'm not a fan of it either. My parent's room was up ahead and my older brother's room was at the end of the hallway. I continued my way down the dark hallway, using the walls as my guide.

As I approached my parent's door I stopped and pressed my hands against it. They're probably sleeping. I wrapped my hands around the doorknob and slowly and gently turned it. I peeped inside expecting to see my parents sound asleep but instead I was greeted with an upturn room with no sign of my parents.

The sheets were torn and soaked with a red substance, the pillows ripped open spilling the stuffing. Clothes from the closet were thrown about the floor and the same red substance splattered across the walls.

What the hell happened in here? Where are my parents? Were they around? What if something happened to them? Morbid thoughts raced through my timid mind as I stood in the doorway, my hands still holding the doorknob and the other clutching my chest.

As I scanned the upturn room, my eyes set upon something near my parent's windows. Something that almost took my breath away.

And not in a good way.
