Clayton Perlman began his career in real estate by working for his family business. He earned experience in real estate acquisitions and in real estate development. While he was with his family company, he helped develop single and multi-family homes in California. He also developed homes in Nevada and Utah. However, he decided to leave his family's company and branch out on his own.

In 1999, he began working in the finance industry. He spent several years with the New York Mercantile Exchange and worked in many different capacities. He learned about the oil and natural gas industry and their effect on the finance markets. After many years, Perlman used his real estate experience and his finance experience to shift his career path. He moved to New Jersey and became a real estate developer and a business owner.
