"Samantha, you be late for your first day of school! Hurry!"

"I'm sorry mama!" Samantha said as she rushed downstairs trying to put on her backpack. In a formal khaki skirt and a pine green collard shirt. She had silky brown hair and green eyes. She reached the front door and looked back.

"Mama, you ready?" She asked me. I couldn't help but be mesmerized by her innocence. How warm a child can be. How touching can a simple smile from a child be. I love her so much which is why I work so hard. At the same time, it infuriates me when I think about her father.
