Chapter 1: the new kids

Mina POV
"Who's that? The girl looks so pretty!"

"Are they new??"

"Wow they look so compatible together! Are they a couple?"

"The guy is so good-looking! Please don't tell me they are dating!"

There were many whispers of gossip around us as we walked down the corridor towards the school office.

"Oppa, I need to go to the washroom, wait for me!" I threw my bag at the guy beside me before walking into the toilet.

Before I entered the toilet, I heard some girls talking about us again. "They must be a couple! She called him 'oppa' so affectionately!" I shook my head at the funny assumptions people made up.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Song Mina and I'm 17 years old. My family moved from Busan to Seoul as my parents had to work here. I just transferred to Crescent High School together with my brother, Song Mino, who is one year older than me. We are probably everyone's siblings' goals because we are very close and loving.

Perhaps that's why people often misunderstand us for being a couple...

When I exited the female toilet, Mino was leaning against the wall and staring at a distance far away. He posed as if he was modeling for a photo-shoot. And not surprisingly, I caught a few girls observing him from the corner of the corridor.

"Stop acting cool, your fan girls are going to faint." I teased as I grabbed my bag from him. We walked towards the office to meet our respective class representative who will help us with the administration matters.

A boy wearing a tie in his school uniform approached me.

"Hello, are you Song Mina?" He asked politely and I nodded my head at him.

"I'm Kim Donghyuk, the class president of our class. Here's your student diary, your timetable is already inside. I'll lead you to our class now."

I thanked him before turning to Mino.

"Oppa, I'll meet you for lunch later after school! See you!"

I followed Donghyuk to our classroom and he had stared at me weirdly. He must have been like the rest of the schoolmates here, wondering what my relationship with Mino was.

"Hello class, this is our new classmate for this year. Please welcome Song Mina!" Donghyuk cheered as he stood in front of the class to introduce me.

"Good morning everyone! My name is Song Mina, and I'm the new transferee as my parents have moved from Busan to Seoul to work. Let's be friends, and please take care of me!" I bowed and the class erupted into cheers.

"Mina you can take a seat next to the window." He instructed kindly but then whispered softly, "Your desk mate might a little unfriendly at the start but he is a nice person once you get to know him better."

I walked over to my seat hesitantly. Being new to the school, having an unfriendly desk mate would make things much more worse. I wonder if Mino is having a better time than me...

After taking a seat, I turned to face my desk mate who was sleeping on the table and has his face hidden by his arms. Just then, a girl sitting in front of us turned around.

"Hi Mina! My name is Eunmi, let's be friends!"

I was beyond elated to hear that. Even if I had an unfriendly desk mate, at least I had a nice friend sitting in front of me!

"The teacher is here, I'll introduce you to the rest of my friends during lunch break later alright?"

I nodded at her as she turned around to face the teacher, Mr Choi. I was relieved, glad that I had been rather successful in blending in to this school environment.

The class stood up to greet the Mr Choi and this is the first time I saw my desk mate. He had his fringe pushed upwards and he certainly didn't look like he was in any good mood. Despite his unfriendly appearance, he was still undeniably handsome. I decided to be brave and take the first step to break the ice between us.

"Hello, I'm new here, my name is Song Mina." I smiled at him.

He remained silent for a few seconds, probably thinking if it was worth his time to answer me. "Kim Hanbin." He replied curtly.

Alright, I shall not test his patience anymore, it was obvious that my presence wasn't appreciated here.

It was soon lunchtime and Eunmi dragged me to the canteen as a few boys tagged along behind us. Not thinking much, I just shrugged them off as classmates walking towards the same direction as us.

"Oh right, let me introduce you to my friends who are now also your friends!" Eunmi started.

"This is Kim Jinhwan and Song Yunhyeong, there are the happy pills of our gang!"

"Hey how can you leave me out when talking about happy pills! Hello, I'm Kim Jiwon, but please call me Bobby!" A guy waved to me happily.

"And this is Jung Chanwoo, Kim Donghyuk and Koo Junhoe!" Eunmi introduced the other 3 boys to me. They waved to me as well, welcoming me to join their clique.

"Wow, your clique is really big." I commented.

"What do you mean my clique? It's your clique too!" Eunmi replied as she started searching for something.

"Ah, there he is! The last member of our little gang- Kim Hanbin." No way, that arrogant brat???

"Are we done with the introductions? Because my stomach is growling furiously now!" Bobby whined. We nodded and walked towards the canteen together. Just then I saw a familiar figure sitting back facing me.

I was feeling a little guilty for forgetting my lunch date with him but it seems like he doesn't even care about me after meeting his new friends.

"Eunmi, I need to talk to someone for a moment. I'll meet you guys at the table later!" With that, I brisk walked to Mino's table.

"YAH SONG MINO weren't you supposed to have lunch with me?" I slapped his shoulders as I reached him.

"Okay okay okay stop it Mina! It hurts!" He cried out and I stopped my relentless attacks. The boys around him laughed out loud.

"I didn't know you had such a fierce girlfriend." The boy with center-parted long fringe said.

That earned a chuckle from Mino and I. Why does everyone in this school assume that we are a couple? Do they not realize the similariy in our names?

"Anneonghaseyo, Song Mina imnida. I'm his younger sister." I bowed politely, regretting making such a scene at the first impression of Mino's friends.

"This is Jinwoo, Taehyun, Seungyoon and Seunghoon." Mino introduced me to all his friends. I bowed at them and waved before turning to oppa again.

"Enjoy your lunch with your friends, I just came to disturb you! I have made new friends too! See you after school!"

When I turned around, eight pairs of eyes were fixed on me. Uh oh, what have I done wrong this time?
