Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Sydney was growing tired of waiting. Each second seemed like an eternity as the droning of the clock ticked on and on.
As each minute rolled by her anticipation grew stronger, yet her nervousness could not compete with her confidence.

"Colton. Colton freaking Brooks. I'm so mad I could just, I could just-"
"Curse?" Asked Sydney's best friend,
Amelia. She's been through this before. Sydney gets angry, she feels the need to curse, she usually does it, then pops every stick of Winterfresh gum into her mouth to try and cleanse her tongue.
"That fucking douche! I can't stand him!" Sydney exasperatedly remarked, regretting her used of the f-word as soon as she finished.
"Sydney, what is the big deal with cursing anyways?" Amelia questioned.
"Classy women don't curse, Amelia. I've told you this before. I am a classy woman, therefore I will accept the fact that Colton has challenged me to the spot of President," Sydney clung onto the paper, rips in the upper corners from where she tore it off the pin board.
Big letters read 'SCA President Finalists' and featured her and Colton's name underneath.
Sydney tossed the purple paper aside, and, with Amelia by her side, strutted towards the bathroom.
"Slow down, Sydney!" Amelia exclaimed, not being able to keep up.
Sydney, already applying a fourth layer of lipstick after washing out her mouth in the bathroom mirror, vandalized with graffiti and careless scratches, sighed and turned to face the out-of-breath Amelia.
"Why does this always happen to me?Sydney looked down at her feet, "everything I work for, he's right there to take it from me. My family is going to be so disappointed in me when I lose."
"When have you ever been one to say something like that?" Amelia spoke, engulfing Sydney in a hug.
"You are the most confident person I know," Amelia pulled away to look Sydney in the eye, keeping her hands on her shoulders. "You won't lose this, I promise."

"Wonder how pissed she'll be if she finds out I'm her only competitor for SCA President," Colton said as he lifted the blue pen engraved with his high school's name on it in yellow, scribbling his messy signature next to the only signature on there.
Sydney Grey. His rival, his enemy since the day he could speak, Sydney Brianna-Elizabeth Grey.
"Are you sure you wanna go there, man? I know you two are destined to hate eachother and your bloodlines are basically made to repel eachother, but to only sign up to piss her off is kinda low dude," Jordan, Colton's best friend said.
"She's worked kinda hard for this, Col," Colton's other best friend, Austin, agreed.
Colton finished his signature and placed the pen back where it was, and turned to face his friends.
"Everything she's done, I've done better. Everything she's signed up for, I've signed up for more. We are supposed to be rivals. So no, guys, I'm not gonna spare her fragile feelings because she's worked hard. I'm sure if the situation was reversed she'd for sure do the same thing I'm doing."
Austin and Jordan looked at eachother, then nodded simultaneously at Colton.
"Alright, man."
