Another boring day in Las Vegas, trying to find a small job to do Jonathan O'Dorne is driving around the quote frequent, busy city seeing if stuff is needed to be moved or maybe getting rid of. Coming across nothing but a few pipes to take for parts for whatever project he could make for himself when he's not making stories; he parks his pickup truck in an empty lot to check if he's gotten any messages from his few friends. Noticing a text from Mariana and Roberto surprisingly finding time this summer to hang out; having free time himself, although having an abundance of it, he texts back he'll pick them both up in and go out somewhere. Later on once collecting the two friends, who were constantly bickering about how little time they had to hang out Jonathan was staying focused on the streets ahead of him about to cross an intersection, unexpectedly a man on his motorcycle races in front of them nearly ramming the truck he swerved sporadically out of the way tumbling onto the road ahead of him. Jonathan still slammed on the breaks from shock watched the man skid for what seemed to be nearly 20 feet away; in his worry for the stranger he hopped out his truck and sprinted towards the man who surely had to have serious injuries from that scary fall he took of his motorcycle, but Jonathan stopped just 6 feet from the man while Roberto and Mariana barely managed to get out of the trucks passenger door stumbling over themselves and the mysterious man got up to his feet seemingly unscaved by what he went through. The man had that average biker gear on, a leather jacket wrinkled with age, a slick black helmet with just as black gloves, denim pants along with what had to be steel toed boots; for the merest of moments Jonathan felt as if the man was standing right next to him and then he looked to his right then his left he saw no one and then turned his attention back to this oddly not injured biker.
As he fixed his gaze back upon the man he could see him waving his right hand in front of his scrap junk of a motorcycle and it's mutilated parts began shifting into what seemed like brand news ones making his metal heap into a brand new chopper in what had to be under twenty seconds. Utterly astonished by what he's witnessed Jonathan takes a few steps back from this character who just did his own fix up job with just a wave of his hand.
Jonathan finally musters up the courage to ask him, "What in the actually fuck did I just see?!"
Staring at the man and back at his motorcycle which has the engine on and sounds perfectly fine. Roberto and Mariana back at the truck are now standing there in awe by what glimpse they got of the scene that occurred; whilst the man simply turns his head towards Jonathan and once seeing him do so he takes even more steps back readying to run from this confusing person, the biker out stretches his hand towards the teenager, trapping him in some kind of grasp of kinetic force and speaks a few words under his breath that Jonathan attempts to make sense of it but sounds like gibberish. This same gibberish however he finds echoing through his head, unleashing these images of what seems to be runes of some sort; all the while this is happening the duo behind the truck are now panicking, in a flurry of words amongst themselves they come up with an idea of chucking rocks at the biker that has their friend captive; whom they needed to get home. After missing countless rocks, and the cantations from this man stops and all that's left to be heard are rocks smacking the ground and Jonathan writhing in pain from what feels like getting smacked from a baseball bat, the intimidating figures grip on him now shifts to the two that threw rocks at him doing the same as he had done to the first teenager.
Jonathan through his squirming, after being released from such torment of what could be said was sedation and interrogation on a psychological level, was now hearing the tormented screams of his friends and looking at the man as he twists his wrists and curl his fingers as if pulling strings on a puppet. Little did Jonathan knew or could make sense of, the man had a bag with him and from it appears one of his possessions fell out; a book of all things. Out of fear and anger of this monster he reached out and grabbed the book without the man taking notice, sneaking it under his thin jacket. Now all he could do was watch in confusion and dread as the biker did his sorcery or whatever it was on his friends, but within only a few seconds was he done with this task he's done, the grasp on Roberto and Mariana released but not the pain that followed. After so he hops on is motorcycle and zooms off; Jonathan arrogantly saying, "Got your damn licence plate number now." Now trying to get up and having flashes of the runes in his head keeping a strong hold on the book he has tucked away goes to check on his friends who he hears asking for help.
Dragging his feet over to his vehicle with what felt like a weight on his back he goes to the other side to find the two laying there still rolling about trying to recover from this attack. First opening the passenger door and flips the middle seats back rest down and opens the compartment for small items and coins he tosses the book in then back up goes back to his friends leaving the door open. He says to both of them, "Come on get up you two." Grabbing Marianas arm first and trying to heave her up onto her feet, then getting her into the middle of the truck seat, then Roberto into the passenger and buckling him in closing the door. Jonathan leans on the door thinking what on earth just happened, finally letting the whole thing play through his head he knows he isn't going to forget what went down and what he saw was real, either that man was a figment of their imaginations or he's a real sorcerer, a mage.
Jonathan fully recovered by the time they stop at Mariana's house having her get out on Roberto's side and him closing it shut once he hops back in Jonathan rolls the window down and yells, "Don't speak of this alright?" Mariana looks back and says, "Okay." Now heading to Roberto's house passing the elemtary school and it's half pass seven o'clock Jonathan tells Roberto, "This is one thing we can't go telling our folks at home or school or.. hell anywhere to anyone, they ain't gonna believe us and I ain't sure I believe myself right now with what went down."
Roberto says, "They're gonna ask me what I was doing and coming home later then expected, should I tell them a little?"
He replies, "Afraid not, unless you intend on getting in more trouble for telling what's gonna sound like a fib, a lie. Just say we went out to IHOP down towards Vegas and got screwed by traffic."
They make it to Roberto's driveway by the end of the discussion. And Jonathan checks with Roberto again, "Not a word to anyone."
Roberto puts his thumb up and jogs up to his front door as Jonathan goes up back home where he for sure missed dinner and was told they're gonna have BLTs, slamming his horn he gets home stressed, parks the truck up on the slope of the driveway in front of the garage that is already open with his Dad and Stepmom are smoking. Exiting the truck all he hears is the excessive barking of the Chihuahua named Cheko while the calmer of the two dogs Rocky walks towards Jonathan and sniffs all around his dirty pants while he's patted on the head. Almost forgetting his new stolen item Jonathan pulls down the middle seat and opens the compartment again to remove the book which felt would tear apart by a small breeze, closes the compartment turning the truck off and closing the door shut and locks it he walks into the garage and walks up to the fridge that's out there to get a water. Without hesitation his Stepmom asks in a smartass tone, "where you get that book you don't read?" Jonathan spews back after chugging the disgustingly cleaned water, "Ain't any of your business Vicky." His dad simply asks for her in a nicer but irritated way, "where did you get it Jonathan? He says, "On the floor of a construction site, anything left from dinner?"
