I could feel his hand cup my cheek and as I looked up at him, I saw the sadness in his eyes.
"Savannah we can. We just..."
I didn't give him a chance to finish his sentence.
"No, Tristan." And with that, I left the cooler. Not wanting anyone to talk to me, I walked straight to the locker rooms and slammed the door shut. I couldn't lose it now, but I had these conflicting feelings. On one hand I was uncontrollably attracted to Tristan, every nerve in my body sang whenever he was around me. On the other, I couldn't defy my father. What the hell am I going to do? Lost in my own thoughts, I didn't hear the door open. Not until Clair was standing right in front of me, did I realize I wasn't alone anymore.
Bending down, Clair put a consoling hand on my shoulder. I looked up at her and saw the concern in her eyes.
"Sav honey! Are you okay?"
Taking a deep breath, I told her what happened. I could see her smirk and get excited when I got to the part about the very heated kiss. Then I saw the sadness for me, when I got to the end.
"Oh, baby girl, don't worry. If what you say is true, then the two of you will find a way to work."
"Clair, how could I feel like this? I have only known him for what, a week? I must be crazy. That's it, I'm going crazy. All these long hours have finally caught up with me. Yes. All I need to do is go home and get a good night's sleep; then in the morning, all will be right with the world again," I rushed out the last part.
"Savannah, did you believe a single word you just said?" Clair asked, looking at me questioningly.
"No, but I had to try." A small smile crossed my lips. With a heavy heart, I sighed.
With a huge smile on her face, Clair started to jump up and down with excitement.
"I've got it! We need to go out and let loose." I vigorously started to shake my head.
"Oh no...We are not going out, no way. "
"Please Sav, we haven't been out in so long," she begged.
"And with good reason," I scolded her.
"What's that supposed to mean?" she asked, scowling at me.
"If memory serves me, the last time you and I went out, your drunken ass left me alone in a bar. Alone, Clair!"
"Yeah, okay, but you were OK, right? You got home alright."
"Yes," I said, getting a little angry with her. "I did, but the point was that it was my night off. You know I don't have so many of those."
"Sorry honey, I know. But this time will be different. I promise." How could I deny her anything when she stares at me with those big brown puppy dog eyes of hers?
"Fine, we can go tomorrow night; but if you leave me again, I am denouncing you as my best friend. Okay?"
"Thank you, thank you!" She grinned from ear to ear. "You won't regret this. We can go shopping during the day for some sexy outfits. Oh, Savannah, we are going to have the best time. I just know it." Clair pulled me up and gave me a bear hug, successfully cutting off my oxygen.
"Clair, I can't breathe!" With that, she released me.
For the rest of the day, we continuously discussed what we were going to wear and where we were going to go. We decided to go and check out the new club that was having its grand opening this weekend. Allure it was called. All the who's who was going to be there, and it just so happened that we got personal invitations to attend.
As excited as I was about going out, I still had this sadness about the situation with Tristan. So much so, that I tried to avoid him the rest of the day and tried my best not to be left alone with him. I knew this wasn't fair to him, but what else could I do?
After a really busy night, I lay in bed looking up at my ceiling. Thinking to myself, here I am again, alone in this big empty bed; in this big empty apartment. I turn over onto my side bringing my knees up under my chin and letting myself silently cry; with a heavy heart I wished I had someone of my own. There was only one thought I had before drifting off to a restless sleep...
