You may think singers have a great life, but the restriction in their words is great.
Rylan Welson was a 17-year-old boy living in Tillamook, Oregon. He had a great life and decided that he wanted to write a song. His friends inspired him to do great things. He wrote a great song with catchy lyrics and a fun tune. He was curious what would happen if he posted it on YouTube. His friend, Josh, told him to do it, so he did.
The next morning, Rylan woke to his brother, Terek, running into his room and jumping on his bed yelling, "RYLAN, RYLAN! Look at how many views you got!" Rylan shot up, surprised. How many views could I have gotten in one night? He thought. Terek showed Rylan the computer; there was 3 million views on his video! "I can't believe it!" he said, "This is amazing!" "We have to show Josh," Terek told him, "he will be so proud of you!" They grabbed the laptop and ran to Josh's house.
When they got there, some of Rylan's other friends were there. When Rylan showed them how many views he got, they told him that he had to write another song. He didn't think it would get as many views, but he tried anyway. He decided to write about things that other people write about so that people would like it. He wrote about the great things in life. He then found a tune that fit the lyrics.
Before he posted it on YouTube, he showed his friends and they really liked it. When he posted it, the views started flowing in like a flash flood. He looked at the comments and his heart sank. There were so many horrible comments saying that he needs a dictionary or a new face. He thought to himself, I thought this is what they wanted. He went to bed that night thinking that no one liked his music.
He stayed in his room for the next few days. He thought that no one liked him or his music. He only went out of his room to go to the bathroom. His mom would bring him breakfast, lunch and dinner because he wouldn't go and eat with the family. He never even looked at his phone.
One day as Rylan was laying in his bed, Terek burst the door open and told him to check his phone. Rylan groggily grabbed his phone and turned it on. There were so many messages but the one that stood out was a voicemail from Revoir Studios. Rylan's eyes grew big as he looked at it. He listened to it; "Rylan Welson, we would love to sign you at Revoir Studios. We want you to come and record your songs so we can make an album and people can buy them. Call us back when you get the chance."
Rylan was so surprised that he couldn't move. Terek yelled, "Well call them back already!" Rylan rushed to call them back. They told him that in a few days they wanted him at the studios in LA to start recording. They told him that they could bring a limo to come get him. He asked them if his brother could come with him and they said that he could come but not inside the studio. They had a hotel waiting for them.
The day before they left, their mom told them to be careful and to not talk to suspicious people. They were a little annoyed but they agreed. They finished packing and put their stuff by the door so they wouldn't forget anything.
The next day, there was a knock at the door. Rylan ran down the stairs and opened the door. It was the limo to pick them up! Rylan yelled for his brother to come and leave. They got their stuff and put it in the limo, then got in the limo. There was food and drinks that the driver told them they could have. They were so excited and full of eating they didn't realize that they were pulling into Revoir Studios.
They got out of the limo but didn't grab their stuff because the driver told them they would be taken to the hotel soon. He took them inside the studios and they met the producer, Kyle Prekins. "Welcome to Revoir Recording Studios," he told them with a raspy voice, "You must be Rylan Welson." He looked at Rylan when he said that. "Yes," Rylan replied, "that's me. And this is my brother Terek. If it wasn't for him, I would still be moping in my room right now." Kyle showed them around the studios and told Rylan he need to be there tomorrow for recording.
They went to the hotel and put their bags on the giant beds. There were two king sized beds, a kitchen, a couch, a TV, and a full-sized bathroom. There was even a game console. After playing games for a while they went to sleep.
In the morning, Rylan woke up and got ready. The limo was already waiting for him. He told Terek to go explore and then tell him all about it. He ran to the limo and got in. When they reached the studio, Kyle brought Rylan into the booth and told him they were gonna add a few things to the songs. Rylan was fine with that because he wanted people to like the music.
Once they were done, Rylan listened to the finished song. A frown appeared upon his face; this wasn't what he wanted with the song. He told Kyle but Kyle said it was what the world wanted. Rylan knew he couldn't get anywhere if he didn't do what the people wanted.
Rylan started writing music that didn't fit with his personality. Every time he dropped a new single, he got better feedback but he didn't feel like himself. But, he kept writing anyways. Kyle told him that he needed more instruments and better lyrics.
So, Rylan and Terek went home for a month so Rylan could write a new album. When he got home, his friends and family were waiting for him. He hid his depressing feelings from them and pretended that he was happy with his music.
That night, they had a party for him. He knew the party was because of the music he didn't want to write. They were all having a good time except for Rylan. Nobody knew what he was thinking. When the party was over, he went up to his room to go to sleep.
The next day, he was writing in his room. He couldn't write what he wanted or Kyle would get mad. He finished two songs that day and tried to sleep. It was really hard for him to fall asleep. Overtime, his thoughts drowned him to sleep.
When the month was over, he went back to the studio with a demo album. Kyle and his people helped him make it what they thought was great. Rylan didn't really like what they had done with it but he didn't think he could do anything about it.
When they finally dropped he album, people were giving him hate on it and he realized that he shouldn't write what other people feel. So, he wrote a song about being a puppet on a string and finding his way to cut it. The producers didn't like it but he didn't care. He posted it on YouTube and so many people loved it. He decided to quit Revoir Studios and go back to making YouTube videos. He felt so much better not being the puppet.
