Juliet walked into school like she would any day. She went to her locker beside her closest friend, Jacob. She grabbed her binders and pencils and headed into her first class to grab the laptops they were all assigned to in the beginning of the year.
As she headed to the class she was stopped by Jacob.
"Juliet, Wait up!"
"I can't Jacob, I really need to get to class. Mrs. Alto said that if I was late to her class one more time I would get kicked out!"
"OK, then I won't take long, I just have one question."
"What is it?" She says knowing that it is definitely not anything good.
"Are you still upset about, you know... never having a boyfriend?"
"Jacob, you're wasting my time, but yes. Now I'm leaving, talk to me about this during lunch."
"See ya."
She walked to class not knowing what to think of that conversation. Did Jacob have some boy in mind? Whether he did or not, Juliet knew one thing. She wasn't just going to date anyone that was thrown her way. She admits in the past she has but she has been trying her best to change things. So far, things have been working out, considering she hasn't even had a boyfriend since the 5th grade.
As she walked to class, she was faced with a problem, and a very big one at that. She was all the way up two flights of stairs and down one hallway before she realized she had forgotten her Spanish binder. Not to mention that Mrs. Alto was her Spanish teacher.
She had two options. One, go back to her locker and retrieve it so that Mrs. Alto doesn't notice she forgot it, which she is never happy about, or two, go into Spanish class hoping that we wouldn't need our binders that day. She thought hard about this, but definitely not long, since she had two minutes to get to class.
She choose option number one, praying that she made it back in time. She sprinted as fast as she could down the hallway and the stairs. Along the way, she bumped into a boy, taller than her by a few inches, so she didn't see his face at first. She backed up and looked at who she had just crashed into. It was Jack. The biggest jerk, jock, and any other J-word you could think of.
"I'm sorry, I'm going to be late for class if I don't hurry."
"Don't be sorry, It was all my fault, but I don't want to make you late for class."
He moved to the side and she muttered a small "thank you" before continuing to run down the stairs to her locker. She had finally reached her locker after what seemed like forever and retrieved her Spanish binder. She bolted as fast as her short legs could take her. She couldn't help but think about the small but very interesting talk she just had.
Jack had never apologized before, especially to her. She wasn't really "popular" at her school. Even though everybody knew how much of a jerk he was, she couldn't help but think about whether or not everybody was right. Juliet had never spoken to Jack before, she just went along with everybody else in believing that Jack was a jerk. Her thoughts were interrupted quite abruptly by a familiar sound.
The bell.
She had officially been late for class. She approached the doorway to the Spanish room completely prepared for what was about to happen.
Even though she should have been worried about being kicked out of class for good, her mind was still stuck on Jack and for some reason she couldn't shake him out of it.
