After a while I resolved to call Abbie to see if she wanted to come round so I could recall my nightmare to her. Being the best friend she was, I gave her a brief description of my situation and she came straight round baring a chocolate bar, she sneaked from her mothers cupboard, as a gift.

After relaying the tale to Abbie she, as always, agreed that my sister would be totally no good for Elvis and would only hurt him in the end.

"I feel so stupid and young every time I'm around him," I told her. "There's no way he would ever see me as anything more than his 'Little One' or a little sister." I sighed.

Abbie and I spent the rest of the evening complaining about my sister and how unfair it was. Abbie understood my pain and how much I liked him, we both knew him and we both watched how my sister played all the guys at our high school. She seemed to date everything she could. I, on the other hand went completely unnoticed, a bit like Abbie, even though she had fiery red hair, we were different. That's why we got on so well.

Then at about 10.45 as we were finishing reading through the latest tabloid magazine we heard a car door slam. We rushed to my window that faced my front lawn, to see my sister leaning with her back against Elvis' truck. Elvis then walked toward her and put his hands down either side of her body while leaning down to kiss her. Naturally, my sister lifted her face and returned the kiss, at that I turned away and went to sit on my bed.

"Your sister looks like a rubbish kisser." Abbie said giggling, making me smile.

"Thanks, I hope so, maybe that'll put him off." I replied

"I don't really know what you see him in though, Vi, he's just a bit off beat. I mean I know you like that kind of thing but, I don't think he is much to get hung up on."

"He has potential Abbie."

"Hmmm, maybe. We'll see I guess. Any ways, my momma wants me home for 11. I'll see you at school Monday?" She said gathering her stuff and heading out my room.

"Yeah, of course. Thanks for comin' over! See you Monday!" I called after her as I followed her downstairs and out the door.

At that point Anastasia was wriggling back into the house, aware that Elvis was watching her. He then spotted me in the doorway and waved at me enthusiastically. I waved back but with less than half the enthusiasm, then closed the door and locked it.

Ana said nothing to me and just headed straight upstairs. I began muttering under my breath about how rude she was and how she was a crappy sister, as usual.

Since ma and pa had gone to bed about half an hour ago I began shutting the lights off downstairs and then headed back up to my room.

I flopped down on my bed with a heavy sigh. Why does it have to be like this? Why couldn't I be better than I am? I wished I wasn't so plain and boring then maybe I would at least get some of the things I wanted. I suppose, I took comfort in knowing my parents will always be proud of me. At least I hoped so... With those thoughts I drifted off into a restless sleep.

"Wake up Viola!" I heard my momma call from downstairs, beckoning for me to rise to help her with the house work. "You too, Ana" she followed.

"Yes ma." I tried to call with my barely awake vocal cords.

I rolled over on to my back and stared at the ceiling, thinking about last nights events. How Elvis chose her, how he kissed her and how he could only pull at my hair ends. I resigned to just getting on with my day, even if I knew Elvis would probably be calling for her again today, or some other guy she agreed on a date with. Who knows with her really.

I sleepily wandered over to my desk where my hair brushes and the very little make up I was allowed, was kept. I got ready and dressed into a blue and white sailor dress. Then I headed downstairs to my ma and pa sitting at the table in the kitchen.

"Mornin' honey," My dad said, "lucky for you, you only have to take the trash out today as you did all of your chores yesterday. Your sister won't be so fortunate."

I nodded as I sat down to breakfast, we all waited for Ana. Eventually she came downstairs, dressed to the nines as usual. At this my ma and pa started laughing at her.

"Don't think you'll need such good clothes today Ana, you have your chores to do before school tomorrow."

She visibly deflated and began to protest.

"But pa! I told the girls I'd meet them today to go shoppin' at 1!"

"Best get a wriggle on then girl, you've only got 4 hours to do them after we get back from church." Daddy told her sternly.

"Vi, can't you help me out a little, please?" She asked me.

I was about to answer when my ma answered for me.

"No Anastasia, Viola has been helpin' you with your chores too often recently. Make yourself useful today for once." Mama was rarely ever so harsh to Ana, but you could tell she had had enough of her and it was only 8am!

"Fine." She mumbled as she sat down. Then we started to eat.

After we finished eating we started walking to church, like we did every Sunday. I started to get butterflies the closer we got because I knew Elvis would be there, with Gladys and Vernon his mama and daddy. I always got like this before I knew I would see him.

We walked into the church and he was the first person I saw. We went and sat down next to his family, as his parents and mine were good friends.

"Hello Little one." He said getting up to let me into the pew.

"Hi." I mumbled as I slid past him and sat next to his mother, Gladys. My mama and pa had gone round the other side of the pew to sit next to Vernon and my sister sat the other side of Elvis, of course.

Immediately he began talking to her, so I turned my attention to my hands, trying to keep my jealousy under control, in fear that my blue eyes would turn green. Losing myself in my thoughts.

"You alright darlin'?" Gladys' voice jerked me out of my inner thoughts. I looked up at her, brushed my hair back and smiled.

"Yes Mrs Presley, how are you?" I asked.

"Come now Viola, I have known you for years now. What's the matter?" She persisted, "Is it them?" She ask quietly, nodding toward my sister and Elvis who were staring at each other.

I looked over and as I looked back to Gladys I tried to hide the disdain on my face but obviously it wasn't good enough.

She smiled sympathetically. "It won't last, it never does with your sister and my boy gets enticed by pretty things, he'll learn to look for more than just surface beauty in time. You'll see." She said patting my leg.

I would have replied with a thank you had the Paster not began to speak, introducing today's mass.
