"I wanna grow up!"
Is what the kids love to say these days.
They can't wait to be old
So they can earn stories that can be told
Because they're tired of listening to everyone else's
And want some words to speak for themselves.
Going through grades, the time really flies
From first grade to third, right before our eyes.
And to the young ones it seems
That adulthood only exists in their dreams
But they can't sit still
Until their wish is finally fulfilled.
Why would they?
Why should they?
It's exciting to see all of these things
That grown ups can do.
That teens can do.
That anyone older than them can do.
And not being very old myself,
It's taken all this time to realize
That I don't want it to flash before my eyes.
It's not always a good thing that time goes so fast
It blasts
Away the casts
We put around our aching hearts
After every year we wait
To grow older
To get taller
To get smarter
To get farther
From our childhood.
It's not such a big deal when you're only eight years of age
When you're starting to flip the page
To a new school or a new class
But with the same people from your past
That you always seem to pass
Because you move as a whole
A bowl
Of the same people
Who don't seem so significant at that moment.
But when you move to middle school
And put into a bigger pool
Of fools
With strict rules
You're forced to follow
It's not all that fun as you wallow
In the sorrow
You have to swallow
Because it's the point in your life where you begin to think of yourself
When you take into consideration
All of the things that could go wrong
That DID go wrong
And you blamed someone else
Because you thought it was okay
To treat someone that way?!
Kids all over the world
