The Girl Next Door

Chapter one

The first thing I hear is the music.

I turn to my other side and try to drown out the Miley Cyrus music with a pillow, even though I know it is a completely useless attempt at making whatever it is that's happening outside my window stop being so, well, loud.

Wait.

Next door?

Outside my window?

The house right next to us has been on sale since we moved in. It was an older house from the late nineteen hundreds. Compared to the new, modern houses surrounding it, it looked horrible. I noticed the for sale sign gone yesterday morning. I checked the clock to see just how early the new neighbors wake up.

Ten Pm.

I groan and sit up in bed, waiting to feel my bangs slide down my face.

It never comes.

I feel the top of my head, and start to panic when there is no hair. I stand up and walk as quietly but hurried as I can towards the bathroom connected to my room.

It is all shaved off.

A bald face stares back at me in the mirror. My pale skin looks tan compared to my white scalp. My dark blue eyes have always stood out against my pale everything, but now it's like, no, it is the main focus without my almost white hair. 

Someone had to do this to you.

Shut up, Conscious. I hate you.

But what else would have done it? Your sister is five and can not even do her hair. How could she have done this? 

I hate that voice.

I grab my black 'nerd' glasses. They almost exactly resemble the glasses you see nerds wear in those high school drama movies. I hate them, but I can't stand contacts and nothing else looks even decent on me. 

Some might say I am a nerd. I have all A's in all my classes, and all those classes are the most advanced class in my grade, except math, which is the highest in the twelve grade.

I turn right back to my room, my suspicions high as to who decided to shave off my hair. 

Of course.
