The Mouse

Water slowly trickled down the leaves and onto the floor as the rain pitter pattered along.  Luna, the small little field mouse was gathering food for her family of four.

She has a fairly normal mouse family in the clan.  A laid back, lazy dad who always left on Friday nights to do work for the bakery down near the creek, and her fierce mom who always stuck up for her in the mouse academy when she was younger. When she was just a little pup, she was often made fun of because she was a "late bloomer". Her fur grew slower than most other mice, but now her fur was softer and fluffier than anyone else's.

Nonetheless, her mom couldn't work anymore because she broke her foot when she was exploring a giant's house. She tells stories to Luna's little brother every so often about how there was a giant monster. A dark deep black color with glowing yellow eyes and sharp pointed ears and it bit her foot, but she bravely scratched at it's eyes and screamed so the creature dropped her.  Luna didn't really believe it but it was cute seeing her little brother smile for once.

As she was walking down through the rain, a drop of water would hit her on the head, and she would scurry as quick as possible under the nearest leaf. It scared her half to death.
Sadly, she had not carried much food with her now. She had a few seeds and berries. Seeds were a pretty bland food, but oh my, berries she thought were the best type of food around. Although she collected those berries, the low amount of food she collected would not pay much tonight.

Oh well. It was okay, it was Friday and her dad would probably bring home some a few extra seeds, and maybe even a small wild-berry pie for dessert.

Suddenly, a loud roaring sound came out of nowhere. Barks, growls and more assortment of predator sounds rose out.

Luna's ears perked up and her body was shivering. Her eyes twitched for a second and at that moment a loud boom rang out. Milliseconds later she was on her feet and running. She abandoned her leaf-made wagon barley full of food.
As she arrived at her village, the clan chief was escorting families of mice out.
Luna scurried to her house and searched for her family.

"Ethan, Dad, Mom?!" She squeaked.

There was no response.

She searched the little burrow far and wide for them, but they were not home.

Had they left already? Darn it.. Luna would have to make an escape by herself. Most of the families were out already.

Luna quickly dashed out of her house. Her heart beating ever so quickly. She didn't notice the fact that all mouses had evacuated by then.
Suddenly,  she saw it.
It was a giant, but no ordinary giant. It was no mouse. It had to be at least 6 feet tall! It was behind the grass. Did it see them? Did it want them?

"What is that?" Luna cried. She watched in terror. She couldn't move. She was frozen.

With all her might she tried to run but her curiosity and instincts wouldn't let her.

Loud stomps and a booming howl screeched out.

Luna finally was able to flee. She bolted, faster than she ever ran as she saw two giant paws run out from the grass. She screamed in terror.
After the paws came large floppy ears and furious snarling muzzle showed themselves from out the grass.

"What is that!?"
Luna cried as she ran. Quickly she found a small little shack that was used for storage in the town. It was quite far away so she figured it would be safe. She quickly took a sharp turn and ran inside.

"I just- I don't know what to do.." She sighed.

She looked around the storage. Rows and rows of leftover and old food and some materials for gathering and healing.

"Good.. So much stuff I can stay here for awhile. Survive.." She says quietly as she continues to search the shack.

She nibbles on some seed for a snack.

"So boring.." She says.

"Then again, if it's the end of the world i'm pretty good to go I suppose." Luna whispers.

Luna hears a very loud and obnoxious boom. Her ears droop and she hides under some bedding in the shack. It was so loud.. she had never heard that before.

But after that, she heard some weird noises that she had never heard and a few more barks. Nothing else.

Quickly she picked up a very sharp stick of grass and ventured outside.

She quickly ran back to the town.
Some things were ruined. Those damn giants, they must've stepped on it.

As she got closer she noticed that the chief was there with plenty of strong looking mice.

"H-Hello?" Luna yells over.

The chief looks over sharply. Her seems to order the other mice to look over.

Luna quickly runs over and reveals herself.

"Wait.. drop your stick ma'am.. you are a Berry good, aren't you?" The chief says.

"Yes sir.. yes I am part of the Berry Good clan." She says proudly.

"I didn't see you before. Sorry we left without you.. Um.. How'd you manage to survive that attack on your own?" He says.

"I um.. just ran I suppose." Luna says awkwardly. No one really speaks to the chief this casually.

The chief nods.

"You, in honor of your bravery, why don't I treat you and your family to a nice dinner. Tonight, in my home." He says.

"Alright.. sounds great sir, thank you!" Luna replies happily.

Hours pass as some mice slowly regather into the town. Some of those strong mice start to rebuild houses and shops.

Luna and her family get treated to a nice dinner at the chiefs place. It's larger their house and their food was far better.

Luna was happy then. Just like her mother she had a story to pass on to her future family, and young clan members, but she didn't think her story would beat her mom's in fierceness.
