It had been a long night in the old warehouse. One of the cranks had just gotten past the gone and had been tied up with the others that were guarding the entrance. She had been screaming frantically as they dragged her out, scraping her feet against the concrete floor, completely oblivious to the fact that they were starting to bleed.
My brother Ian had helped our guards drag her out, and I could only imagine how hard it must have been for him. After all, she had been his girlfriend once. But he couldn't think that way. Not now.
We were all destined to become her one day, and we had learned to accept losing our humanity a long time ago. Still, I was hoping to keep mine for as long as possible. It had not been very long since me and my brother had noticed any symptoms, so hopefully we would have a couple of months left of sanity.
The cranks here had been very welcoming from the start, and we were quite happy here, considering the circumstances. But on this specific night I couldn't help the hopelessness that was creeping closer and closer, haunting my mind.
Emily's heartbreaking, inhumane screams were somewhat muffled by a vicious thunder storm outside. I couldn't decide which noise was worse. Both made me feel scared and worried . There had been storms before, but this specific one was making me shiver, and I couldn't help thinking that something out of the ordinary was about to happen.
That everything was about to change.
