Don't You Hear The Stars?

The small apartment was quiet, except for a tiny tapping coming from the kitchen. It was a restless Alice, waiting in the dimly lit room for her 1am pizza. She also happened to be waiting for her girlfriend to return after a supposed night out with friends. This was nothing new. Every other night was like this one. Alice would never make dinner herself when Eloise wasn't home, it was easier to order food and heat it up for when Eloise got home. Although some nights she wouldn't return which lead to a poor Alice falling asleep at the kitchen table without out having eaten for hours. A night much like this one.

I awoke the next morning face first in pizza with a overly energetic Eloise rummaging through the kitchen for breakfast.

"Well good morning sundance." I rolled my eyes sighing. 

"Good morning Eloise." Sitting up yawning I asked. " Where were you last night?"

"Oh i was just out with some friends. I ended up staying at Andrews. I'm assuming the pizza was for me?"

"Um, oh yea sorry." I said wiping the excess pizza off my face.

"It's fine." She laughed and grabbed something out the cupboard and placed it on the bench. "And don't you have to work today?" I looked towards Eloise and she raised her eyebrows at me. Behind her the clock on the microwave read 8:15am. Oh shit, I'm going to be late. I got up and ran to my room grabbing the clothes i needed and headed into the shower.

"You better wash that sorry ass quickly chicky!"

The smell of hot coffee and baked goods filled my senses as i walked into the cafe. Late. Again. Luckily for me the boss wasn't here and I'll be let off this time.

"Alice, late again?" Or maybe he was and really I'm going blind.

"Hi Gale..." Oh God oh God someone help me please.

"Let me guess... Eloise?" He grabbed my hand rubbing it ever so softly.

"We can talk about it later Gale. I'm to tired of your flirty ass." I slightly pulled my hand away from his grasp but not enough for him to it go.

"Well alright dear." He gave me wink before letting go of my hand and walking away. "Hurry up and get to work would you." He yelled at me heading into the next room with a smile on his face.

The customers were lining up at the counter already. Who would've thought that rush hour was nine in the God damn morning. I walked up behind the counter and began taking orders and it wasn't long till the line had vanished into only a few students sitting in the cafe.

After a couple of hours in the empty cafe the door opened making it's tragic and rather annoying sound and a girl with reddish-pink hair walked in. "Hi." The customer spoke leaning against the counter.

"Welcome to Manderly cafe. What can i get you?" I smiled at the customer.

"Oh honestly don't give me that. I'll have a large caramel mocha with extra whip and.." She winked at me. "Extra sugar."

"Of course. And your name?" I said still smiling.

"Just call her Sugar since she likes things so sweet. How are you dearly?" Gale walked in and began stroking Sugars arm. I walked away to make her coffee but continued listening to their conversation.

"Hi Gale. I'm good."

"Really cause you haven't been here in a while my dear." Did she come often? I hadn't seen her before...

"Your employee is cute. I haven't seen her before is she new?"

"Yeah she started working here last week the day you stopped coming." I brought Sugars coffee out to the counter but Gale just pointed to the table in the corner instructing me to take it there. "Go have your coffee and get your book out." Gale hugged Sugar and sent her over to the table. I'm glad she thinks i'm cute no one really noticed me much this past week. Although i thought she was much cuter and I continued to send glances her way checking out her figure and I definitely liked it.

After not long Sugar packed up her books and pens and walked up to the counter. She left a note in my tip jar and left. I took the note out of the jar and opened it up immediately.

"Oh what's this?" Gale asked ripping the note out of my hands.

"It's mine is what it is Gale."

"Aww I told you she was sweet as sugar."

"No, you told me she likes sugar."

"Same difference. But still, I ship it." I took the note out of his hands and ran my fingers through my hair. Of course she was cute but we've barely even talked and I'm dating Eloise so I can't like her and I won't. She seems really distant anyway...

Gale broke the silence. "Are you going to talk to me about Eloise?" Can he read my mind? "You don't have to if you don't want to..." Honestly.

"No I think I'm just going to leave it she's just doing her usual thing it's okay." I took off my apron and handed it to Gale.

"How's your brother?" ... "Alice don't glare at me like that."

"I don't want to talk about him."

"Well I asked and the.."

"I'll be going now since my shift is finished say hi to Kallum when his shift starts for me." I grabbed my bag out of the staff room and smelt the smell of hot coffee and baked goods for the last time today. Although six hours of coffee seemed to be enough.

The walk home was slow. And when I got there Eloise wasn't home and had left a note on the table.

I'm going out with friends tonight don't wait up for me I probably won't come home.

p.s. I'll be seeing your brother as well.

What business did Eloise have with my brother? She new I hated him. After sending Eloise fifty or so texts I ran and jumped on bed. It had been a long day.
