She looks across the water
To the light shimmering in the distance.
She hears them getting closer behind her.
The hounds' deep howl gaining on her.
Her heart is beating to the sound of the quickened pace of their footsteps.
She looks behind her then back to the black depths.
Either choice is a possibility of death.
Was is better to die free or tortured for the information only she knew?
But what would happen if she took a chance?
Did the unthinkable?
Either way.
She could die.
So she stared death in the face...
