Crunch.
'Ow,' The sandy colour haired man on the ground groaned. 'That'll bruise well.'
The man's name was John, John McArthur, and he had just fallen from his bed in Sydney, Australia, at 3:00 a.m. and hit his nose. John groaned and sat up. No sleeping in today he thought grimly, 'Ooh that hurts,' he moaned, his head spinning.
John was a young adult just out of university and had a job as an archaeologist in Egypt, his flight to work for the week was tomorrow and he had to pack still. Lets get this over with he thought with a sigh and started picking up his clothes
John was wearing a high visibility vest and had a brush in his hand, he was in charge of cleaning the artefacts recovered. His face was covered in dirt and sweat, his hair needed washing and his clothes clung to his skin. He hated Egypt.
They were in Cairo and had been for 3 days. Their site was cordoned off from all but the police. John had been on this particular site for three weeks, every time he went home for the weekend, (paid for by the company), his work piled up. He would just get on top of it before he went home, and so the pattern went.
His routine was interrupted when he got a call from his boss to get down to a site in Thebes, all he was told was that it was a tomb fit some sort of Sorcerer or Wizard. He was to be transferred next week and that someone would pick him up on Monday in Cairo.
That was Friday 2 weeks ago.
John was still in Cairo waiting and helping at his old site when his boss called again.
'McArthur,' the voice of his boss said, from the other end of the phone line, 'why aren't you at the site in Thebes yet.'
'Sir I'm in Cairo waiting to be picked up still,' John drawled in what he hoped was an unamused voice, but really it just made him sound snarky.
'That bloody ungrateful little —,' his voice was interrupted by a shout, 'Just get your sorry ass down here or you're fired!'
Thu-thump, thu-thump, thu-thump.
John's heart was pounding as the screams sounded below him. There's bodies down there, he thought as the screams stopped, every one was huddle around the edge of the giant hole that had appeared on his lunch break.
Flashback
John was on a boat sailing up the Nile trying to get to Thebes, it had been 36 hours since he had got the phone call, and he really needed some sleep. At least we're nearly there he thought his mind nearly shutdown from exhaustion.
End Flashback
Now he was at the site and had been for nearly a month. No weekends at home this time though, he had been working all day every day, sun up to sundown. Only break was for lunch, and today he had got back from his lunch break to see a giant hole where the time used to be and screams emitting from it. The people that were down there excavating are dead, he thought grimly, they just didn't know it.
Some of the Egyptologists had found hieroglyphs detailing a weapon that could disintegrate anything. So, of coarse, the boss wanted it. They had recovered it, it was a gun, and the boss had pointed it at the tomb and squeezed the trigger...
The Solarium had awoken.
