Chapter 1- The Diary

Hi I'm angelica and I live with my dad and my Mam. I love them both soo much. We live in a small cottage in the middle of town surrounded by forests. I always knew it was a magical place but one day truly proved that.
I awoke from my peaceful slumber by the huge alarm bells from the church across town. The day I have dreaded has finally came. CLEANOUT DAY! It was the day I tackled the attic. Nobody has been up there in years and anything could be up there but I had to do it.
I managed to haul myself out of bed and brace my self for the challenge.
I climbed the rocking ladders and steadied myself at the top. I swiped away the cobwebs and dust from my face. I moved boxes as I went along and came across a box with grandma wrote on it.
I opened up the damaged edges and peered inside it. It was full of old diaries and photos. One was titled my secret life.
I peeled back the crisp edges and discovered the truth. My grandma was magic. There were drawing of mythical creatures from perspectives that have never been seen before and places so amazing that have never been discovered before. On the 3rd page there was a detailed drawing of a wooden door engulfed in brambles and vines. I needed to find out where this place was.
As I continued to search through the pages I uncovered more and more about my grandmas life. I picked up the fragile book and out fell a crumbling map stained with excitement. It looked like an image of the deserted forest in the desolate part of town. That part had been vacant for years and nobody knew why but people didn't want to live there. I had never questioned it till now.
I called to my dad and told him I was going out. He didn't question where I was going or why , he just told me to be back before supper. I gathered some tools from the shed (a flashlight, secateurs and a match box with 5 matches left) I also brought along the diary and a few photos.
I opened up the front door and stepped out to see where the maps would lead me.
