J E S S I C A jacobs was sat on the sofa that had been pushed aside for a make-shift dance floor. it was her first party since her grandmother's death, the last person in her family she had to look up to. her mother had passed away fifteen years ago, her dad disappearing and never heard from, meaning that her grandmother - who had always been there to help support jess' mother - took in her six grandchildren and raised them. jess knew she'd taken advantage of her nan, finding her mother dead on the kitchen floor at a young age was an ingredient to her disobedience through her teenage years.
"hey," a boy sat next to her on the sofa, a drink in his hand - alike jess and almost everyone else at the party. he had blue eyes and dark blonde hair that was messily assorted on his head, some strands falling down over his forehead. "i'm harry." he smiled at her.
"jess," she offered a small smile back. for a moment, as harry looked like he was contemplating on something, they sat in silence.
"wanna dance?" he finally asked. jess looked to the scene in front of her where everyone was dancing to the beat of the music. looking back to harry, jess nodded her head. she downed the rest of her cider, placing the empty cup on a table beside the sofa - harry doing the same - then took harry's hand to lead her into the dancing bodies. the carefully weaved around people, hands holding onto each others tightly so they wouldn't lose each other, finding their way to somewhere near the middle of the pack of drunks. harry pulled jess closer to him, her head just under his chin and their bodies seemingly to naturally move to the beat of the music - a song jess didn't know - harry's hands softly resting on the curves of jess' waist, her hands moving up to the back of harry's neck as she moved her hips.
"how do you know jamie?" harry asked as he pulled jess' hips closer, the alcohol boosting the two's confidence and causing their actions to seem slightly hazy.
"high school. we were in music class together, but we're not really close friends - just more know of each other." harry nodded as the song changed, the beat faster causing the mass of people to follow.
the pair had been wandering together for the past hour and a half - between the kitchen for a drink and the dance floor. at some point, the fun would have to end. the couple would have to return to their life's - jess trying to hold her family together when it's falling apart faster than she can comprehend and harry back to his girlfriend (who lay forgotten in the back of his mind, jess far too intriguing to not get to know) and life of small fame - their two irrationally different files.
"shit," jess mumbled, pulling away from dancing with harry and stumbling towards the exit as she took in the large amount of texts and missed calls from two of her three sisters. harry continued dancing for a moment before he no longer felt jess' body holding onto his - quickly opening his eyes, he looked for jess. not being able to see the dark ginger hair of the green eyed girl. he stumbled through the curtain of people trying to find her. he walked to the kitchen and was about to leave when callum walked up, the other callum - sarah by his side - trailing behind.
"we're leaving, mate, everyone's wasted except me, vik and tobi." harry took one last glance around the room
before nodding. the group of friends - simon, josh, freya, ethan, emily, vik, tobi, jj, callum, sarah, harry and cal - said their farewells to a tipsy jamie before leaving, the sober vik and tobi driving two different cars and leaving freya and sarah to sit on their boyfriends laps, in different cars. the two cars went their separate ways, harry's drunken mind still on jess.
meanwhile, jess was walking down the streets of london - it wasn't too far to her house - to get home and find her older sister, mia. jess wasn't looking forward to conversing with her, she had betrayed them after their nan died. took majority of the money left for the young adults to make a better life for herself - and only herself. jess didn't care for whatever she would have to say, it wouldn't change the fact that she betrayed them and left them to fend for themselves. if there was anything the young family had been taught when growing up it was not to take advantage or leave behind your blood. your family is the only ones who have to love you unless you give them a good enough reason not to.
"jess! where the fuck have you been?!" jess had only just closed the door to the small apartment when mia appeared from the lounge, hands sternly on her hips. "are you drunk?!" the elder sister seemed outraged.
"i'm sober now, whats it to you?" jess ran a hand through her hair, seeing faith in the doorway to the lounge, behind mia.
"whats it to me?!" mia mimicked, throwing her hands in the air. "maybe because you're supposed to be taking of faith! but what are you doing?! you're going to parties and getting drunk! probably slept around." jess was a taken back by her sister's sharp words. "obviously, you can't look after faith-"
"hold on a minute!" jess cut mia off, herself feeling angry at mia's allogations and the audacity she had to say that jess wasn't looking after her younger sister good enough. "you left! you don't care! whilst you took all the money we had left, forgetting about your family, i had to scavenge through the money i could find to put a roof over mine and faith's heads! faith had to stay with a friend for a week whilst i bunked at one person's house then moved to the next because they realised i wasn't going to pay them for letting me stay because i was broke and trying to support myself and a fifteen year old. don't you ever say that i can't look after faith properly because you have never looked after her properly." jess took a deep breath after her rant, tears streamimg down her face.
"mia, i think you should leave." faith's small voice spoke as she entered the hallway, walking towards the front door to unlock and escort her sister out. mia hesitated, looking as if she was about to say something, but gave up and walked out without saying anything else. closing the door, faith walked to her sister and wrapped her arms around her stomach. jess repliacted faith's actions, putting her longer arms around her shoulders.
"i love you,"
"i love you, too."
after making sure the flat was locked up and getting changed, jess laid in bed - faith in the room next door - with the boy she spent all night with far at the back of her mind.
harry, on the other hand, lay with his mind infatuated by the girl he had spent all night with.
and the two lay in their two different worlds and their two different lifes and most likely, never to meet again.
