The beautiful fields of emerald green.
The crisp ocean blue skies.
The cool summer breeze and the melody of singing birds.
This was my country.
My people, the terran witches, see its beauty not with their eyes, but through magic itself.
They do not see that it has less than an hour to live.
Malrus was a city filled with magic sensitives, and it called to my lord.
Aboard his dead ship, he hungered through magic, drew sustenance from death.
My people never saw his face when he struck-- but they heard his voice.
When my lord spoke, every living thing in Malrus died.
The destruction of Malrus echoed through the lifeline of magic itself, the screaming of countless lives.
As the terrans see life through magic, we can see death as well.
A miasma of death and disease loomed over my peoples land like a shadow of death.
Touching and consuming every inch and ounce of light that the land once touched.
Women screamed, children cried, the cold air clawed at our skin like claws.
There was nothing left of the city.
Crumbling buildings lined the once great streets.
It is said there were no survivors in Malrus.
That is because my lord came for the last one himself.
Days later, I awoke on his ship, my wounds healed.
I did not know where I was.
I did not know why he had brought me there.
The cold air shot down my back like a bullet shot from a gun.
His shadow beckoned me closer.
His body unmoving, his breath unwavering.
My body trembled at the sight of him, his gaze upon the window.
I asked him why he had spared me.
And although he said nothing, I suddenly knew the answer.
It was because he wanted my people at last, to see.
The city sat in ruins, a dark cloud sat above the site.
Buildings still toppled down, even after the destruction of all life.
My breath was shaken at first, now its steady as I watch the past.
The future is all I hold now, as the shadows cradle me.
They once called me a witch, a being made of words.
But now I shadow death, a necromancer first of all.
