I pulled into the driveway. Well, more like the curb. On the other side of the road. Across from the house. I looked out the car window and breathed in. There are so many cars.
I almost forgot to breathe out.
I have never been to a party this big before. I don't know what to do. Should I wear my jacket or not? I'll take it off, and show more skin. Okay, now what? Oh yeah, my hair. I put it in a messy bun earlier. I should take it out. Let the hair flow free. Before getting out of the car, I took another look at myself. I'm wearing a short black dress with a small belt to make it more fitting. I'm weird, so I decided to wear my high top converse with it. I pulled down the mirror. Wow. My black hair fell perfectly around my face. My makeup looks okay, I guess. I put the mirror back up, and sat back in my seat. Okay, I'm ready to go. I put my hand on the door handle. I hesitated for a moment.Oh my gosh! Just stop being stupid. Open the door, come on. I pulled the handle and slowly opened the car door. I let go, and got out. Okay, that's progress. Now shut the door. Good, good. Walk across the street and boom, your there. Everything will be fine. After a moments hesitation, I walked over. I reached the door. Um, should I knock or just open it? I'll knock just in case. I lifted my hand up to knock and the door swung open.
"Jesus!" I yelled. A guy with brown hair appeared. Chris.
"Vee! Hey Matt, Veronica is here!" He yelled to inside the house.
"Chris you scared the crap out of me!" Laughing he pulled me into a hug. Chris is one of my best friends. I haven't known him long, but we've been through a lot together. The door opened wider and another person came out. This time a blonde haired man. Matt.
"What did you say? I couldn't hear you over the noise." He didn't even notice me.
"Um Matt, over here." I waved to get his attention like he was a bull.
He looked at me and smiled.
"Finally decided to join the party aye?" He said. I laughed and he pulled me inside.
People, music, warmth, everywhere. It was so loud I couldn't even think. I realized I was staring at someone. He has brown hair that is spiked up in the front and beautiful brown eyes. Wow, I never looked at him so closely before. His name is Sam. He's the quarter back of the schools football team. He noticed and smiled. I quickly looked down. That was close. I mean it's not like I like him. I'm dating someone anyway. His name is Max. And he is so much better then some stuck up football player. I looked up. Wait, where did Matt go? Great I lost him already. I guess I have to look for him. I walked down a hallway ignoring all the couples making out. It led into a huge room. Probably the living room. Next to it was the kitchen. People were dancing on tables and chugging beers. As I walked in everyone stared at me. I stared back.
"Hey Veronica." A girl named Kami came up to me. I haven't talked to her since 2nd grade.
"Uh, hey. What's up?" I said awkwardly.
She took my arm and pulled me back down the hall.
"Max is looking for you. He is up the stairs in the first door to the left." She pointed up the case of stairs that I didn't see before.
"Okay thanks" I started up the stairs. I could hear her giggling as she left. I hope she isn't pulling a prank on me or something. I reached the top and saw the door. I opened it without thinking.
"Hey Max. Kami told me y..." I stepped back in horror and shock. He was in the bed with another girl. Trinity. Wait, Trinity is Sam's girlfriend. What is she doing here? Why is she doing it with him? My boyfriend, he is my boyfriend! He finally noticed me.
"Oh, Vee it's not what it looks like!" He held his hand up as if he was going to stop my thoughts.
"Don't ever call me Vee you jerk!" I could feel the tears rush out of my eyes. I ran down the stairs. Kami and her Posse saw me and started laughing. I ignored them and headed for the front door. My vision started to get blurry. I went to wipe my eye but instead of stopping and doing it, I kept going and ran into someone. I turned around to see who it was. So did he. Unfortunately it was Sam.
"Hey, what's wrong?" He asked
"Go ask your girlfriend!" I yelled. He seemed confused. I turned around and kept going.
"Wait!" He yelled after me. I didn't stop. I walked outside. I can't go home my mom would question me. And I can't stay inside. I'll walk to the park. That should clear my head, well hopefully.
I reached the park. It's so cold. I wish I wore my jacket. What am I doing here? Oh yeah. Him, her, The secret. I hate him. How could he. How could she.
I found a tree and sat down next to it. I hate her! Why does this always happen to me? To me!
I felt the tears come again. I brought my knees to my chest and wrap my arms around them. After half an hour of staring into the darkness I put my head on the ground and fall asleep.
---------------------------------------------------------
I opened my eyes. It's still dark.
I heard a stick break. That wasn't me. I sat up. All I can see is a black silhouette of someone.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Veronica? Is that you? It's me Sam." He came closer. I can see his features.
"Go away" I said. Yeah, I know he got cheated on too, but he...I don't know.
"Please. I've been looking for you for the last 4 hours. And it's freaking cold out here." He took off his hoodie and held it out to me. It is cold, but i don't want to take it. Ugh whatever. I took it and put it on. He held out his hand and I unwillingly grabbed it. He helped me up.
"Thanks I guess. How did you know I didn't go home?" I asked letting go of his hand.
"Your friend Matt said your car was still here. I knew how you were feeling so I volunteered to help find you." I could hear the hurt in his voice. I feel bad. I smile.
"Thanks."
We silently walked down the sidewalk back to my car.
"Um, thanks I guess." As we got back.
"Yeah, no problem. Nothing I wouldn't do for a beautiful lady." He said pretending to tip a hat. I laughed. My cheeks are on fire. Can he notice? Wait this probably isn't a good time to be crushing on him.
"Oh yeah, um... sorry about Trinity. If it helps, I broke up with her." He rubbed the back of his neck.
"I'm so sorry. I'm pretty sure Max got the idea I was breaking up with him, or he was breaking up with me."
"Hey, it's okay. If you need to talk, I'm here." He opened his arms as if he was going to hug me then quikly put them down. He opened the car door and I stepped in. He shut it and stepped back. I waved and started the car.
I drove away, while he waved. I just realized I still have his football hoodie on. Whoops.
