It was a Saturday, my friend threw a spring break party as this was our first spring break as freshmen in college. I wasn't much of a party person but hey why not, one small party can't hurt anyone.
"Yo this party is so dope!! Like bro I'm so far gone..." Shawn said slinging his arm over Grayson
"Bro I think it's best you lay off the drinks and head home" Grayson says trying to reason with him
"Nah few more hours bro, please?" Shawn begged but it was spring break so why not Grayson shook his head
"Fine..."  Then he walked away leaving me and Shawn standing there
"Don't do anything stupid ok" I said smiling as he nodded.
I walked away looking for Grayson spotting him standing in the corner with a soda in his hand as he didn't wanna drink because he was my ride home.
"Hey" I managed to get out over the loud music and yells
"Hey" He returned with a smile. I stood by him resting my head on his shoulder as he moved his arm placing it over my shoulder. We stood and watched as Shawn drank a few beers and chugged a few.
Hours went by with me and Gray waiting for Shawn to pass out or something so we can put him in a car and go home but something didn't feel right... I just couldn't tell what it was... Shawn came over and stood before us with some chick.
"GUY THIS IS VERONICA AIN'T SHE HOT!!" He chuckled then continued
"We should get going it's getting late" I found it somewhat odd he wanted to go home all of a sudden but I just let it go. I got my jacket and my helmet throwing gray his keys. Gray exited the house as I followed and got on the back of Grays bike as Shawn got into Veronica's car. I wrapped my arms around Grays torso tightly looking over to see other people getting into there cars to. But I know the party wasn't over... Why are so many people leaving. Gray pulled off as so did the others. Gray let the other cars go first then he went and more cars followed. We drive for about 5 maybe 10 minutes then we noticed some of the cars started racing... Including Shawn... They all started lining up getting closer and next to each other taking up both lanes. I've been down this road many times to know how dangerous it is. It's a windy narrow road and though not many cars come through I just have a really bad feeling about this. They start slowing down so Gray does too to make sure everything is alright. Shawn hangs out his window to talk to the person in the car next to him. They talk for a bit then the other driver makes some odd hand gesture and everyone pulls off.
Still lagging behind eyeing Shawn we see he hands the other guy cash and they wind up the windows. There engines start roaring and they inch up little by little then take off. Gray does his best to follow behind and I hold on tighter. We come around a narrow corner and as we're going around the next Shawn loses control of his car and spins out hitting the other car and as Gray goes to slow down he hits the back of Shawn's car throwing me off the back of his bike. At that moment it was like time just stopped, I hit the ground and slid feeling the tears rush down my face as I watch the other car come tumbling towards me. I didn't know what to do everything just stopped... I couldn't hear anything... See anything... Or feel anything... I couldn't decipher if this was the end or not... And then it hit me after lying there lifeless. All I could hear was sirens and Grayson's faint screams of my name and footsteps coming closer to me.
"CATARINA!" I heard a familiar voice yell as they got closer
"YOU SON OF A BITCH SHAWN!" I heard someone sob but I couldn't make out exactly who but maybe it was Grayson. I felt someone move me but who? Am I dead? Is Grayson okay? Am I still lying in the street lifeless?... I heard doors slam shut and people conversing.
"She was thrown pretty far you're lucky we got there when we did and are you positive you're alright that gash on your head looks bad" a voice said then followed with
"We've got a pulse she's still with us for now!! How much longer till the hospital?!" I'm guessing the paramedic said
"We're looking at around 5 min" a man replied
"Yeah I'm fine just worried about her... She's more important..." They said and I felt them grasp my hand tighter, Gray? Wait I forgot I'm not alive alive he can't hear me but I think it's him...
"She's losing blood idk how much longer she has..." He added
"We'll make it no worries!" he yelled with reassurance.
" I hope so..." He said with concern. I heard a faint whimper. I can't make out who but I think it's Grayson... Meaning he's ok hopefully but I'm still not sure
"Do you think she'll make it??..." A low broken voice said breaking the silence aside from the sirens
"Listen kid she clearly means a lot to you but I-" he stopped mid sentence. I started hearing beeps then a solid beep.
"I'VE LOST A PULSE HOW MUCH FARTHER!!" The paramedic yelled but was interrupted
"YOUR LOOSING HER DO SOMETHING SHE'S DYING!" Gray screamed as you can hear the hurt in his voice. Which means he's ok thank god. But I wonder what happened to Shawn and the others...
"Kid chill out she'll be fine" he reassured Gray but Gray wasn't having that
"HOW CAN I CHILL WHEN SHE'S DYING RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!" He yelled back. I get how hard this may be for him but the guys only trying to help I agree gray needs to chill but I'm all gray has left... And he's all I have... We both lost our parents at a young age, we met when I moved to Cali. Gray and I were inseparable we still are. I remember the day he asked me out in 9th grade... It was the 25th of December... He took me ice skating And I fell and he caught me... He was always there to catch me when I fell... Except for today. The guy began what I think was cpr I felt pressure on my chest so I guess I'm not dead but...
"I'VE GOT A PULSE HOW MUCH FURTHER!" The paramedic yelled. Well I'm not dead...
"PULLING UP NOW THEY HAVE THE O.R WAITING OUR ARRIVAL" the driver I suppose answered
"Thank god" I heard Gray say in relief
"Listen kid you can't go in the O.R with her but you don't look to good, get yourself so get checked out and those wounds treated ok. I promise you'll get to see her when she's out the O.R" the man said. Gray didn't answer so I'm suggesting he nodded his head or something I mean he probably wasn't OK with leaving me alone. I felt my hand move... I'm guessing Gray was still holding my hand cuz the pressure I felt before was gone as I felt them moving me. There were no more sounds of sirens just footsteps and voices of people. I felt them move me and someone say careful as if they were going to drop me... Which probably wouldn't be a bright idea in my opinion. Then there was the sound of my monitor I'm guessing and then silence and occasional whispers and a lot of pressure and I got weird chills occasionally... I wonder how bad I look?... I hope someone got a picture I wanna know just how bad Shawn fucked me up so I can do the same to him cause if this beautiful face is messed up Ooh is he getting it... I chuckled to myself I'm sure other people would find me crazy if they heard the things I things I think about... Hours went by and then nothing... I couldn't feel a thing... It's like everything just stopped again... But this time it was different... That pressure on my hand was there again... And the beeps of my monitor were less faint but I still couldn't move. Am I dead or alive... Or in between?...
