There I was, sitting alone inside a cosy old place filled with New York people, looking for love, searching for hope.
I think I was pouting, looking around, searching for a sign. Just one sign.
I tried calling my friends but no one answered, sadly. They might've been busy. But, Fridays were always spent in this place. Being busy was never a good excuse.
We called that place, Planet Awesome, we spent our free days here. Moving to New York was hard, I mean, for me. I was sure that my pals would've never agreed. It was easy for them, they found cool jobs. They found girlfriends.
And then there was this blonde guy who was kind of a pussy for being too awkward when it comes to girls—aka me.
Luke Hemmings, Australian, moved to New York, guitar-enthusiast, accused of being a girrafe because of his height, mostly single, been working in a shitty-ass office with a shitty-ass boss named Janice who likes to shout at people.
The trait I hated the most was that, I was always single and I had nobody.
Sure, that was not a big deal. But come on, I was entering my middle-age life. Which sounded a bit more like diapers and less sex, I wasn't ready for that, I felt like as if I was still a 20-year-old guy.
But pretty soon, you'd understand why I wanted to find my soul mate. Believe me, I had been into several horrible and hilarious blind dates, some of them were kinda awkward too—extremely akward to be honest here.
You know what's awkward. Sitting there, my hands on my phone, hoping to get a single text from one of my friends. I bet they were having a rough night but I had definitely been having one hell of a night too. My boss, Janice shouted at me for wearing earphones while working.
Anyway, you see that Blonde dude walking towards me? I bet you don't. But he's Niall Horan. He probably made much more money than anyone else in our group, lucky for us, we've got ourselves a banker. He worked as an executive officer for his uncle's company which is a private security firm.
He was the fun guy of the gang, nobody hated him, he always wore this white shirt that made him look cool, I guess.
He had no problem about girls but he was too afraid or should I say, he was not a fan of marrying and settling down and he decided to stay single because he thought that that would be a greater idea than entering a boring life.
This was the one thing we didn't have in common (except he was rich and I was broke), I really wanted to find the girl of my dreams, I wanted to have kids I could talk about my young days to.
"Ahh, Luke, nice night right?" He spoke, wiggling his eyebrows.
You see, Niall had this crazy habit but don't worry, we— did something about it on another chapter.
I nodded, giving him a handshake before he sat down, "What's taking them so long?" I asked out of curiosity.
I hated waiting.
"Uh, don't know," he said in a deep voice and— noticeable Irish accent. He moved here for College. We all did, by the way. In fact, we all met in college.
"They must be waiting for their girlfriends to finish their hair and make up?" Niall laughed aloud, shaking his head.
I was also laughing about this— but my phone vibrated. "Excuse me, buddy, I'm just going to answer it."
"No problem! I'll talk to that Latina over there, oh yeah New York!" Niall saluted and then stormed off.
"Hello?"
"Luke, I need you to take a cab and get here right now."
"What? Michael, if this is one of your pranks, just..."
"No, Abigail's left me in this bar and she took my clothes."
"WHAAAAAAAT? What do you mean she took your clothes? Are you fucking crazy?"
"It's a long story, just get your ass over here!"
