What they really saw

"I see me & Kif getting married!" Amy said as she, Zapp, Kif, and the Planet Express crew sat out on a blanket, looking at the stars. People always said that one could see the thing they want most in the stars, and the group found out themselves that it was true.

"Aww." Fry smiled at Kif & Amy, as they saw the same thing.

"What do you see, Fry?" Amy asked as she turned around to face Fry.

He looked up at the sky and squinted. Was he seeing correctly, or was he getting cataracts? The stars showed Fry and Bender, happily dating. "I'm not sure." He lied. After rubbing his eyes, he realized that this was no illusion. It was real, but it made no sense. Over a decade of trying to woo Leela couldn't have been wrong about the fact Fry loved her. Then he asked himself this: What if I felt that way about Bender all these years, but refused to accept it and distracted myself from that by forming fake feelings towards Leela? Nothing made sense. He could swear his love for Leela was real. Was Fry that deep in denial? Usually when he was in love, everyone would know about it. But under certain circumstances, admitting the possibility he loved a robot of the same gender could get him killed.

The human sighed. He never guessed that seeing his deepest desire would make him question his life for the past few years.
-------
"What did you see, Bender?" Fry asked the robot next to him.

Bender saw the same thing as Fry, but lying came easily to him. "Money."

For a reason Bender wasn't able to see, the human male looked disappointed. "Oh."

I'm lying to myself and to Fry. How could I refuse to believe something I saw with my own eyes? I've loved him ever since I ran away from the police with him. Well, I guess this is what I get for deciding to have feelings for a stupid meatbag.

The robot's cold, metallic fingers slipped through the spaces between Fry's soft and warm fingers.

"What are you doing, Bender?" Fry asked as he turned his head to Bender, who was to his left.

"Nothing, shut up."
------
Hours later, Amy brought Fry to her apartment and decided to have a talk with him.

"Amy, is this about you wanting us to be friends with benefits again? Cause I've decided that I like being your friend, I see you as more of a sister."

"No, it's not that."

Fry squinted. "Are you trying to set me up with somebody. I've told you before, I'm perfectly fine with the way my life is right now."

Amy sighed. "I just wanted to ask you something." She looked into Fry's eyes. "Did you really see nothing out there?"

"I didn't see a thing. What leads you to think otherwise?"

"Well, for one thing, you seem a bit paranoid about it." Amy rolled her eyes. "That, and I think it has to do with something you're not telling me."

"What am I not telling you about?" Fry's face heated up.

"It's about Bender. I saw him grab your hand out there and acting like it was nothing. And you were staring at him like no one else mattered. Most of the time, best friends don't do that. But you know the type of people who do that? People like me and Kif. I feel like you really saw Bender in the sky. What else would you even lie about seeing?"

Fry sunk down in his seat. "I think you're overanalyzing this."

Amy's face filled with sincerity. "Fry, I'm not overanalyzing this. I see things like that happen all the time with you and Bender. Don't be afraid to tell me what's going on. I'm your friend, and all I want from you is you being happy."

"Oh, alright. I'll tell you the truth."

The girl gave Fry a hug. "That's all I'm asking for right now."
