I was all alone. Darkness flooded the room. The darkness sank in my heart. No words. No breaths. I was alone. Alone in the dark. The darkness over riding me. Running through my veins. I gasp for air. My throat throbbing more than it ever has before. I can feel my heartbeat. That's when a door opened. Bright White light flashed Through it. I walked towards the open door way. Searching for a way out of the darkness. I stumbled on every step on every breath. The other side was steps away from me. 3 steps. 2 steps. 1 step. SLAM. My dreams crushed as the doors shut closed. I was running out of time. No food. No water. My lifeline was shortening if I didn't get out of here now, I never will. I stomp my foot on the ground. I look around with no way to see the world around me. I keep stomping. There's only one way to get out and it's that door the Door that keeps shutting. Crushing my hopes and dreams. Again it opens bright white light blinding me. The second chance it gives me me is more than I could ever ask for. I walk through i as the bright white light goes through my veins. Turns me into some twisted version of myself. Some insane ruining of myself. I shout. I kick the floor the anger overwhelming me. Being trapped for so long turned me into something else. Into something that wasn't human.I was changing inside. Changing outside. There was a mirror. In that mirror I wasn't the ordinary girl with brown hair sweeping down my shoulders anymore. My hair was black and slick, it was cut. I looked at myself I wasn't me. I was someone else. Someone from a different world. My skin was blue. My lips: green. I was wearing rags. Around me was nothing. I walked deeper in the white light. Everything was changing everything was different. The white became pink. Then red. Then I was in front of a stop light. Wearing a dress and makeup. In a car looking both ways, waiting for the light to be green. The light turned green. I was on the soccer field now. From when I grew up. My family came here to play many, many times. It turned yellow. I was on the beach with my boyfriend. Walking next to each other. Holding hands. It felt like I left that life behind. The life I cared so much about. That's when realization hit me. I was dead. Dying. No longer alive. I kept going through those memories. 1000 miles per hour. I felt my lifeless body. How could I not have realized this? Here I am. Alone. Dead. I stopped in a wide room wearing bright white robes. "Welcome" a man said.
"Am I dead?" The only thing that made sense. The only thing that could make me be this far away from home.
"No, take a seat" he said. I sat down.
"Then where am I?" I asked.
"You're nowhere and you're everywhere" he said
"that doesn't even make any sense,"
"it doesn't have to"
"Then what do u call this place?" I ask. The walls were dark. I thought of the room i was trapped in, covered in darkness. It made me shudder.
"Valsasia,"
"Why am I here?"
"Because we chose for u to be here"
"Why did u chose me?" I asked, wanting the answers he wasn't giving me. Irritation in my voice. Why won't he tell me. "What is this place for?"
"We chose you because you're a warrior. Valasia is a tribe for warriors. We find some on earth and bring them here to fight monsters that flood the world."
"I'm not a warrior,"
"You have proven me wrong"
I thought back to everything I've done in my life. One memory was trapped in the back of my mind. I let it out. Remembering the day my Mom died.
It was the middle of the night. Storm clouds covered the sky. No stars could be seen. Fog swept around buildings like a mysterious cat. Loathsome in the woods. I am turning 13. It's my birthday. I'm in the car with my mom and sister. My dad is at home. sleeping. I heard a sudden sound and the car jerked to a stop. "Get out of the car! Now!" My mom yelled. We didn't question. Unbuckling the seat belts that wrapped around us like a bow on a present. We got out if the cat without a word. My mom looked at us and there was one word in her eyes RUN. She opened the back trunk and got out a gun. There was more noises. Click-clack, click-clack. Stomp- stomp-stomp. I hid behind a car a house down. Holding my sister's hand. Ranting, It's going to be okay. We heard a yell. I looked over and my mom was lying on the ground with a big giant towering over her. No no no no. Not mom. Not my mom. blood was ruining her new shirt. The one i gave her for Christmas. I ran towards her my sister calling behind her. Everything in flashes. I remember grabbing her gun. I remember shoots taken at the giant. I remember it falling to the ground with a thump. My sister ran towards me. Her mouth dropped open in what I just did. I killed it. I killed the giant.
"You know what you did, when your mother died you couldn't stand losing her you put up a fight" the man said.
I'm not a warrior. That was only once. Only once. I stare into his eyes. Old eyes but ageless ones too. So much time. So much sadness in those eyes.
"What do u want me to do?" I asked
"We are going to train you, then we'll let you go into the real world and fight monsters,"
"All alone?" How could I do it all alone, how could I do anything all alone anymore?
"No, you are going to get a partner," he said, the words sounded practiced. All the times he's taught this. All the times he's said this. Why does he keep doing it. I would get bored. Tired. Tired of the same thing. The same day.
"Who is it?" I asked
"I can't tell you about him yet," he responded with an eye roll. You're going to have to train first.
"Train?"
"Train"
