Chapter 2--The Banquet
When they arrived at the Great Hall, Professor McGonagall had her stay outside with the first years. Severus and Dumbledore continued in to go sit with the other professors. A few moments later they were ushered in to where all the older students sat with anticipation to see who was coming into their house. Jasmine saw the sorting hat and knew it was time to learn who she was on the inside. She had a special gift for seeing the good in others. They began. Hermione and Neville were sorted into Gryffindor along with a boy who had flaming red hair. She listened intently as Zane was called up. 'Hufflepuff' the hat shouted as Zane joined Max and embraced him. Jasmine smiled. Harry was next. the hat had a hard time placing him. Finally the hat called out 'Gryffindor!'. The room exploded with cheers. Then the moment came. "Jasmine Rose", McGonagall said as the room feel silent. She walked up to the stool shaking as the hat was placed upon her head. She was both excited and nervous. The hat just about blew the secret, but McGonagall stopped it just in time.
"Oh another Po...Where should we put you? You would be great in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. But I see you have qualities of each house. I also see you have a special Ravenclaw gift. Better be..." There was a pause Jasmine thought was going to last forever! When suddenly he cried out "Ravenclaw!" She was gushing with happiness as she ran over to join Isabel and Lexi. They gave her a hug and sat down for the feast.
After they finished eating Jasmine saw Harry touching his forehead and winching. When she suddenly got a pain on her left shoulder. Professor Quirrel had walked over to congratulate her, then turned and walked away. she started to cry the pain hurt so bad. Lexi and Isabel were holding her trying to find out what was wrong and trying to comfort her. "What happened?!?" They said in unison.
"I don't know, but it hurt!"
"We better take you to Madam Pomfrey." Lexi said with a worried tone.
"No. I'm okay. It stopped."
"Let's head to our dormitories. Classes do start tomorrow and we all need our sleep." Isabel pointed out. They both nodded as Lexi helped Jasmine up from the table. They went over and said good night to Max and Zane.
"I'll meet you in the morning for breakfast. Okay?" Zane said to Jasmine as he hugged her good night.
"Okay. Good night."
They headed towards their common rooms. When the girls arrived at the Ravenclaw Lexi headed to her room and Isabel showed Jasmine were they were sleeping. When they got there the other two were in there. They did quick introductions and went to bed. They were all eager to get to know each other better tomorrow. Jasmine couldn't sleep. All she could do was think about was what the sorting hat had said. What did it mean by a Ravenclaw gift? She finally fell asleep dwelling over it.
