Sorry this one is so short, I just wanted to at least put something up :)
Dean was on his first day of work at the factory. He had already been through the mind numbing process of training which had included watching a long-time employee add two parts to a complicated machine, then sending it down the conveyor belt to the next guy. For 6 hours.
Riveting stuff.
He sighed as he slipped on the "uniform"; a sanitary overcoat, plastic gloves, goggles and a hair net.
When he was dressed, he glanced in the mirror that hung on the locker room wall just opposite him. A smirk tugged at his lips when he saw just how stupid he looked.
"Lunch lady chic, huh," he half mumbled as he pulled at the hair net. He'd have to show Sam sometime. After all, he was the reason Dean had signed up for the job. John, Sam and Dean's father, had left them to their own devices when their mother died a few years back. It was lucky if either of the boys saw him more than once a week and even if they did see him, it wasn't truly /him/. At least, not the father either of the boys could recall. He would be completely drunk and numb to both of his children.
Dean had started hustling pool when he was 16, barely getting enough to provide for his broken family. He never let Sam see how much the stress of it had gotten to him. Lately, he had had to call it quits if he didn't want to get arrested or jumped on the street. This old factory was where most of the people from town worked, so Dean had signed up as soon as they had a need of help. The hours were long and the work was mind numbing, but if it gave Sam a chance of living a normal childhood, Dean would do it.
"Winchester, if you're done admiring your wardrobe, you can get to work," a voice rang out from behind Dean, causing him to jump.
He quickly turned around to see Rufus, an irritable old guy from town.
"Yes, sir," Dean said smoothly, not wanting Rufus to know that he had ruffled him. The man nodded before leaving.
Dean shook his head before walking out after him. All the machines were still off since the work day hadn't officially started. It was eerily quiet since he was used to the loud drones of the conveyor belts and whirring machines.
"Hey, has anyone seen Winchester?" A voice called out.
"Over here, ma'am!" He called back as he made his way toward the voice.
A red head made her way toward him with a clipboard in hand.
"Dean right?" She stuck out her hand for him to shake it.
"Yes, ma'am." He was surprised at how strong her grip was and the fact that she seemed to look like she was in charge here.
"'Ma'am'?" She quirked an eyebrow. "You sound like a school boy. Charlie will work just fine."
He found himself cringing internally from her condescending tone. "Okay, Charlie."
"There ya go," she said with a smile. "Alright. What do we have you doing today, Winchester?" She consulted her clip board. "Hm, okay. You're at station two with Benny. This is like a part two to your training, but you'll actually be able to do stuff."
He thanked his stars as she led him to his station for the day.
"So, are you the boss around here?" He asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
She laughed. "Don't I wish I was. No, I'm just the supervisor for stations 1 through 3. Novak is the big boss here. You don't want to mess with him."
He took note of this as they continued walking.
