McKellar & Martin is a publishing group that consists of 2 major people. Meghan Hague; the CEO and main publisher, and Tonya Martin; the publisher and editor-in-chief. The name "McKellar & Martin" is a tribute to Meghan's grandmother, Mary, and Tonya's father, Clifton, as they were their inspirations throughout their young adult lives, and encouraged them to make the dreams they had a reality.
Meghan and Tonya met during their time at Raincoast Books, where they both worked. They both shared the common interest of books, and starting a company themselves appealed more and more the closer they came, and more they learned. The most successful book they have published was by Emily Mullock. Her first book, Go Away, Unicorn, was the debut title for the McKellar & Martin list.
This publishing group has officially published numerous books ranging from children's bedtime stories to teen fiction. With adventurous plots these books have been a hit. A member of The Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia (ABPBC) and The Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP), they continue to look and assess new recruits they are interested in working with. In total they have published 8 books.
The independent, trade, book publishing company was launched on September 1st of 2010, and are located here in BC. They set up shop in New Westminster. They publish "amazing authors whose books are evocative, intelligent, honest, memorable, multicultural, beautiful, and, well, fun." Rather it be fiction, non-fiction, kids, young adults, or adults, they publish everything in between.
To give you an idea of how McKellar & Martin work, at the end of their description of requirements in what they consider before publishing, a common slogan they go by is "Heck. We just try to publish really good books."
This company is always looking for new books to consider. If you would like to read some of the books they have published, you can find them either on Facebook, or check out their website: http://www.mckellarmartin.com/
