My phone rang with that repetitive classic iphone ringtone that everyone seem to have which gets into your brain cells like annoying advertisement jingles.
"Hello?.. Yeah.. I'll be right down."
I quickly put on jeans , a hoodie and put my hair up in a quick bun. I promised myself i would be more prepared before leaving the next time even though that honestly never happens.
I grabbed my phone and backpack which had almost everything, from tissues to make up.. anything you'd need in any situation. Sometimes i'd wonder if i were related to dora the explorer.
"I'm heading out mom" i yelled loud enough to be heard.
Somehow it had become a tradition that every Friday we'd meet up at my place ,walk to the beach and sit there to do absolutely nothing but enjoy time together.
I got down to find Samantha standing with her arms crossed, the sunlight seeping through her brown hair , She turned towards me.
"About time Mrs.I'mAlwaysLate" she said with a half smile. It was in my genetics to be late. If I wasn't late I wasn't me.
"Stop teasing beth" said Amelia hugging me like I was her long lost child. I hugged her back. She was about an inch taller than me which made me bury my face in her thick black hair.
She was the sort of person who would wreck your brand new car but you'd still love her because .. well just because.
Rebecca made it priority to put all her focus on documenting every single moment of our entire life. She stood there focusing the camera in the most unattractive angles towards my face
"Seems like you've got yourself occupied". She rolled her eyes at me. "Whatever bethany" she smirked as she said that adding an unnecessary stress to my name.
"I told you not to call me that" I hated anyone using my full name but she couldn't help but annoy me.
"Where's Susan?" I wondered. If there ever was an oscar for the person who's always late, i'd obviously without a doubt win but Susan ..she'd definitely be a runner up.
"Ring her Sam"
..
"She said she'll be here in five"
I took in what a beautiful day it was. Usually the weather would at either end of the two extremes but it was pleasant today.
There was a slight breeze, not strong enough to mess up our already messy hair.
The sound of a vehicle driving in our direction caught our attention. I loved the sound of tires on a pebbly pathway, it somehow sounded so satisfying.
"Your here awfully early miss" I teased Susan
"Sorry, i was caught up in traffic" she excused herself giving a wide smile.
I knew it was an excuse because without guilt i had used it myself more times than i'd like to admit.
Before we began our routine walk to the oceans , I thought of taking them through another route, i had something else in mind.
"Guys you're never gonna believe what my dad told me. There's this creepy old mansion around the block and people claim that it might be .. haunted"
"Not more of your haunted mansions Beth. You know how i feel about them" said Susan sounding annoyed.
"Come on, it'll be fun.. Trust me"
"Boo" Amelia jumped as though she had seen a ghost already.
"Rebecca cut it out" I said partly laughing because her reactions were more priceless than the first edition books of harry potter.
"So you guys wanna check it out or should we turn around?" I asked wishing they wouldn't fuss much.
"Adventure calling out and we ignore it? Lets check it out"
Samantha had always been the kind to support my love for unhealthy exploring.
The walk to the place seemed longer than i expected.
"There it is" I pointed.
It was an old two story house. It had fences around it, not too high to climb but high enough to keep unwanted visitors out. Vines and moss covered most of the old brick walls.
We stood in a line of five staring at it. It looked like it was out of a horror movie or something which made me want to explore it even more.
"You sure no one lives there?" Susan asked. She was.. well lets just say she didn't enjoy trespassing as much as Sam and I did.
"Yeah.. I mean who would wanna live there anyway? Besides what the worst that could happen?"
I looked over at Rebecca "You might wanna record this one" I chuckled. She smirked at me while messing around with the camera setting.
We scanned the property to look for a back door.. maybe a loosely chained gate since quite obviously the front gate was locked. Whoever owned this place clearly didn't want anyone to get in.
"Guys I found an entrance " Rebecca called out. It was the door behind the house that led to a rather dead looking garden which by the looks of things hadn't been cared for in quite a while.
I was very certain by the condition of it that no one lived here.
Strolling through the dead garden trying to find our way to the front door.
We all looked at each other like we were about to rob a bank or terrorise a bunch of kids. But we weren't. I mentally told myself and the others that doing this was absolutely fine.
We were just checking out this really creepy old house which screams 'Don't come in' .
What's the worse that could happen?
