It was a normal day in Chicago. The adults went to work while the kids went to school. Finally it was beginning to feel like spring, for there was a rough winter this year. But like always Chicago survived it because Chicago is the city of heros.

Today was Gabriella Dawson's first day on truck 81 as the candidate. Her and Lieutenant Matt Casey were engaged but only their close friends and family knew. Married couples could not work with each other in the CFD. Matt and Gabby walked hand in hand towards the firehouse.
"Look what we have here," Herman said with a smirk, "Our new candidate!"
All Dawson did was smile from ear to ear.
"We'll just don't stand there, breakfast needs to be cooked!" Otis said while Herman and Cruz were laughing.
"I'm so sorry Otis, what would you like me to make you for breakfast, omelettes or French toast?" Dawson asked with a smirk.
"You know what Dawson, a Denver omelette sounds great right about now." "Well, Otis if you want a Denver omelette then why don't you go to Denver to get you one." Dawson said making Cruz and Mouch laugh even harder.
"Wow! This candidate has some sass!" Herman yelled.
Dawson and Casey walked into the locker room to change out when Brett came in.
"Hey it's my girls first day on truck!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah I'm really excited! Who is your new partner?" Dawson asked.
"I don't know yet, for this week I'm going to be with Mills." Brett answered.
"Oh ok, I have to go to start breakfast now or else the guys will have a fit."
As she was walking to the kitchen Mouch stopped her and said Boden needed her. She knocked on his office door and he motioned for her to come in.
"You needed me?" Dawson asked.
"Yes, come sit." She sat down in the chair. "First I would like to say thank you so much for allowing me to be on 81..." Before she could finish Boden interrupted her.
"Dawson, you graduated at the top of your class at the academy and have the highest scores in everything! I would be a fool not to have you in my firehouse!" He said causing Dawson to smile.
"Thanks chief."
"Have you been talking squad classes?" He asked bluntly. She didn't know what to answer because only one person knew she was.
"Did Antonio tell you?" She asked. Boden nodded and answered
"Yeah I ran into him at the bank."
"Well yes I am, I didn't tell anyone because I don't want you guys to think less of me. I mean it's my first shift as a candidate! And I only told Antonio so if anyone asked he could say we were together. Matt doesn't even know." She answered.
"Gabby no one will think less of you, you are an amazing firefighter they would be thrilled to know that you are taking those classes."
"Thanks but can we keep this just between us two."
"Of course, but if you want to talk to Severide to know what classes that would be good to take. After all he is the Lieutenant on squad 3."
"That would be great!" She was about to open the door to leave but Boden stopped her. "You do know that you have to be a candidate for at least nine months." He replied.
"Yeah, I just thought why not get a jump start." Dawson said this making Boden smile. "Okay that's all."
Dawson walked out of his office to the kitchen to start breakfast then the bells went off...
Truck 81 Squad 3 Ambulance 61 car collision at 47 North Walbash Street
With that everyone raced to the trucks, taking as little time as possible because every minute counts.
