“Not comfortable with the topic, darling?” a rather good looking man asked, breath fanning her face. The other men chuckled and her eyes narrowed at the action. Oh, they were making fun of her now, how very gentlemanly.
With a slender hand she pushed him away with a shocking amount force and straightened when he released her in surprise. “Actually,” She flicked a strand of hair from her face. “You’re conversation is a bit dry.”
Roku gave her a warning look that she decided she hadn’t seen.
A man nearer to her boss leaned forward with a cocked eyebrow, the lights from the dance floor painting his features in different neon colors. “Dry? Is that a nice way of saying you’d like to change subjects?” he smirked. “I assure you we won’t mind if you just say it, it’s perfectly normal for someone who hasn’t been exposed to such things to want to forget such ways of life exist.”
The music wasn’t the only sound pounding in her head by the end of his answer. Rebecca flexed her fingers slightly and forced a laugh. “If you’re not able to handle the more bloody topics you shouldn’t use other people to disguise your discomfort.” she said sweetly in reply to him.
Two seats down a younger male chuckled and tipped his glass her way. “Compliments to the entertainment.” he said.
The previous mans’ face purpled and he let out a growl. “You b-”
Roku set a hand on his arm. “I don’t suggest completing that sentence.” he suggested amiably. “She’s not nearly as hospitable after hearing that particular word.”
Crossing her legs, Rebecca savored the tense silence that ensued afterward and sipped some water. She was getting antsy just sitting around here, even if it was for five hundred dollars extra. Glancing around she caught that it would be best to play the subtle woman to try and leave. “I seem to have caused a fight.” she started, “Perhaps I should leave?”
Her boss scowled darkly at her oh-so-innocent suggestion but she gleefully noted that he didn’t say a thing against it. If they decided she needed to leave it would raise suspicions if he argued the point. That made her extremely smug.
“You’re staying.” One of the older men situated between her and Roku stated firmly. The others exchanged glances but nodded in affirmation.
