Blossom tucked her paws up under her blue, clover-patterned blanket. It was one of the few things that belonged to her.
Wind whistled through a crack in the wall.
She checked her watch. 11:59 PM. The bells would ring in one minute. Then she'd be able to leave.
Living in a small orphanage with 200 other animals just wasn't for her. So she was going to escape.
What could go wrong?
BONG! BONG! BONG! BONG!
The bells at the Mira shrine, located around 10 feet away from the orphanage, rang. Taking advantage of the din, Blossom bounded down the steps to the orphanage cafeteria. She located the back room, ignoring the cooks only sign. She chose five loaves of bread and a large hunk of beef from the mountains of food. On her way out, Blossom grabbed the largest canteen she could find and filled it with water. She tied everything up in her blanket, tossed the bundle in her backpack, and ran.
The cobblestoned streets of Jamaa Township stung her paws with each step. Her muscles flaming, Blossom fled to Sarepia Forest, exhausted. She looked around for a bit, found a hollow log, and laid down in it to sleep.
