At last she came to us and smiled sweetly, ”Here ya go!” and placed the paper on my desk. We thanked her and we slowly leaned closer by our sides so we could look at our activity at the same time.
“What the?!” We both said, blushed, and when we realized our close proximity, leaned back, blushing more. The curly handwriting says “Classic love song for a duet ;)”. A million-ok, maybe not a million- duet love songs popped in my mind, but can I really do this?
“Ok, so I think that’s everyone. DON’T tell anyone what you got, keep the element of surprise. And for the rest of the period, you can know more about your partner, talk about tomorrow’s performance, or something else productive. Go.” And she sat on her desk and read her book.
Daemon cleared his throat. “So, um, how do we do this again?” Now he’s gone shy from being cocky? Wow.
I smiled. “Well, introduction. Hi I’m Harmony Abrams. And you are?” I offered my hand for a handshake.
“Daemon Heathers you probably know that.” He took my hand, but instead of shaking it, he kissed it! I tried hard to hide my blush.
“Quite the charmer, are we? He just shrugged.
“So, tell me more about yourself.” I inquired.
“Well, I’m an only child, dad’s in the army and mom’s a dentist. I don’t do drugs like the rumours say. I like someone here, I like basketball, and I have a secret hobby.” He finished.
“Well, what’s your secret hobby? And who is she?”
“Why would I tell you?” he raised an eyebrow.
“Cause we’re friends!” I said
“So? We just met.”
“Well, you should be honoured because I don’t really speak this often to people I just met.”
“Well, you should be honoured that the school’s resident bad boy is talking nicely to you.” He countered.
“Touché. So we’re friends now, right?” I asked, eyes full of hope.
He seemed reluctant, but he finally gave in. “Fine! Now you tell me more about you before I do.”
“Well, I have one brother here who’s a senior, Daniel; my parents are Broadway singers; I like the rain; I like to read and write; I hate bitter food; and I could sing/act/dance but I can’t because of stage fright. Now tell me what that secret hobby of yours is like you promised.”
“Did I promise something?” I pouted, and he rolled his eyes. I’m being childish.
“Okay, okay. But you better not be telling this to anyone.” He took a deep breathe.
“Icouldsingandplaytheguitar.” He said in a hurry.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “What? Can you please say it slowly?”
He leaned closer and whispered, “I said, I could sing and play the guitar. Not the electric one, just the acoustic one.”
“Oh. Why is it a secret? Oh yeah. Your, um… reputation…”I nodded in understanding.
“But who’s the girl?”
“Someone’s hoping, eh?” now he’s gone back to being cocky.
I crossed my arms. “No I’m not! Just asking.”
He then pinched my nose. “You know, you look cute when you’re trying to be angry” I blushed. “And blushing.” He laughed.
“Okay, I’ll take that as a compliment. Oh shoot, the performance! We only got, like, 3 minutes of planning now.” I cursed my unawareness.
“Nah, we could just plan it later. Let’s say, in the park! Let’s meet up at Starbucks after class, kay?” He suggested, and I agreed.
Then the bell rang. “See ya later, kay? Don’t be late.” I nodded and we went our ways.
“OMG! Both of you looked cute together!” Talia cooed. “Shut up”
