How It Started

Chapter 1: How it started

Cindy walked into the library, hoping to find a book on frogs. Yeah, it was a weird animal to chose for a science assignment but no one was bound to pick it and She wanted to choose something un-original.

As she walked into the animal book section, another book caught her eye. 

The book was an oak tree colour, about 4cm wide and had beautiful gems around it. It was hard to ignore and Cindy just had to have it. She loved sparkly things way too much.

She took the book from the top shelf and placed it in her hands, as she then began looking for a book on frogs.

After Cindy found the frog book she thought would be perfect for her assignment, she went to the check-out.

An elderly lady, with dyed black hair, walked out the staff room, smiling as she walked to the counter. Cindy had seen this lady before but never talked to her.

She placed down her books onto the counter, first putting down her sparkly book.

The lady's eyes widened.

"Where'd you get this book from honey?" She asked."I've never seen it before."

"Really?" Cindy asked, raising an eyebrow."I found it in the animal aisle."

The lady opened the book, looking from front to back for the barcode.

"There isn't any barcode." The lady announced, closing the book.

"Oh..." Cindy replied, frowning."I really liked it."

"Well you can keep it, if you like it that much." The lady said.

"Won't you get in trouble?" Cindy asked.

"No, I won't." The lady said."It's not part of the library. There's no barcode remember?"

"So your really going to let me keep the book for eternity?" Cindy asked.

The lady nodded.

"Yay! Thank you so much!" Cindy jumped up and down.

The lady laughed at Cindy's excitement.

"No problem hun, anytime." The lady ushered.

Cindy then placed down her frog book, checking it out, thanking the lady again as she left the library.

While she was walking, about to read the first page of her book she bumps into someone.

Cindy looks up.

"Oh, hey Liam." Cindy smiled.

"Hi Cindy." Liam replied."Where are you going with that book in your face?"

Cindy rolled her eyes.

"Home." She said."Where else would I be going?"

Liam shrugged."Maybe to the park, Maybe to Mexico, maybe to commit suicide, may-"

"Alright, alright."Cindy rolled her eyes again."Where are you going?"

Liam shrugged again."Maybe to the park, maybe to Mexico, maybe to commit suicide...Who knows?"

"You're a real jackass, you do realize that right?" Cindy asked.

Liam smirked."I do."

Cindy checked her watch."I need to get going. You wanna come over?"

"Sure." Liam replied, catching up next to her.

From the library to Cindy's house it was a 10 minute walk, and it was quiet until Cindy spoke up.

"So Liam, do you have a girlfriend?" Cindy asked, nudging him in his arm.

"W-What?...Um no." Liam said, turning a deep shade of red.

Cindy laughed as she walked up the steps to her front door.

"If she only knew..." Liam thought as she followed her.

~Cindy's Bedroom~

"So, Cindy what do you wanna do?" Liam asked, putting down his phone."I've been here for the last fifteen minutes and we've done nothing but play on our phones."

Cindy, just about to speak, looks over to her bedroom door barging open by Samantha, Emily, T.J. and Tyler.

"Whats up y'all?!" T.J. asked, obviously  towards Cindy and Liam.

"Nothing very much..." Cindy replied, her feet cocked up at the top of her two seater couch, her head on the handle.

Cindy's bedroom was pretty big, not massively, but enough to fit a queen bed and two seater couch.

"Really? Or are you two hiding a secret from us?" Samantha asked playfully, raising her eyebrows.

Everyone, except Cindy of course, knew about Liam's crush on her.

"No...wha-what are you talkin-" Liam was cut off by the slamming of Cindy's book.

"Saved by the book..." Both Cindy and Liam thought.

Cindy rose from her couch, about to pick her book up when it slid across the room without anyone's touch.

Everyone freaked out by that sudden
movement, Cindy finally found the courage to walk over and try to pick the book up, when once again, didn't let her by it's pages opening up itself to a particular page. Page 13.

Cindy tried to pick up the book once again and finally succeeded by snatching from the floor before it moved again.

"Follow these instructions and we'll be even." Cindy read aloud directly from the book."Numbe-"

Tyler snatched the book from Cindy's hands.

"Ty, what are you doing?!" Cindy exclaimed.

Tyler ran with the book and began running with it out the house. Everyone chased after him, wondering where in the world he was going with the book.

"Tyler! What are you doing bro?!" T.J. asked.

Everyone was calling him, people staring at them as they followed Tyler into the woods.

They pushed their way through the branches until they reached a steam. Tyler was standing right on the edge.

They all watched as he dropped the book into the stream and watched it as it washed away in the current.

"Why'd you do that for?" Cindy asked, everyone else behind her.

Tyler looked down."That book is evil. It's better to get rid of it before it's too late."

Everyone looked at him confused.

"I wish I can tell you more...But I can't. It's too risky..."

"How do you know this information?" Emily asked.

"I wa-" Tyler paused."I-I can't. Like I said, I can't tell you more than I already said."

Everyone was quiet, so quiet the only thing heard was birds tweeting.

"Can we just pretend this never happened?" Tyler asked quietly.

"Sure, Sure." Liam replied, everyone agreeing just to get out this awkward moment.

"Let's go back to my house guys..." Cindy said, turning around.

Everyone except Tyler began following her.

"Um...I think I'm gonna head home guys..." Tyler said, rubbing his arm up and down.

"Oh...um, okay sure." Cindy replied, slightly understanding why he would want to."See you later then..."

"Text us when you get home." T.J. added.

Tyler nods, and exits the woods in a different direction than the others, leaving them standing there.
